Mrs. Burnette Boykin Coleman

Burnette Boykin Coleman was born December 15, 1947, in Rankin County, Mississippi to the late Ben and Jannie Knight. Burnette confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. A longtime member of Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness in Pearl, Mississippi. Burnette was known for her compassion toward the sick, disabled and elderl. Also, she loved to cook and feed the community. In 1965 Burnette met and married the love of her life, George Boykin, Sr. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1969. To this union four children were born: George, Jr, Michael, Richard, and Lisa. Burnette was blessed to experience agape love when she married Mr. Joe Coleman in Rankin County, Mississippi who preceded her in death. Burnette moved back to Chicago, Illinois at the request of her son Richard to help raise her daughter's (Lisa) children. After raising her own children, Burnette was blessed to be the guardian of four beautiful grandchildren: LaTrice, LaErwin, LaDonna, and Tatiana. While in Chicago, she joined Pleasant Green MB Church. She was a member of the choir and a regular church participant. Burnette volunteered at the local food pantry. She would take her children and grandchildren to church regularly. Burnette was employed throughout her life: She served at the University of Illinois at Chicago as a cafeteria worker for many years. Burnette was a caregiver for those who were sick. A security guard for a short period of time. The greatest job was that as "mother" to her four children and grandchildren. Our mother's love is the fuel that enabled all of us to achieve the impossible. She would take her children and grandchildren to church regularly. On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, Burnette transitioned from this life to reside in her eternal home, Glory! From her mansion now, she would like us to reflect upon God's love and provision, as well as his handiwork on her amazing life! Burnette leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children: George Boykin, Jr. (Quandra) of Chicago, IL, Michael J. Boykin (Shelmane), of San Antonio, TX, Richard R. Boykin, of Oak Park, IL, Lisa Boykin, of Lansing, IL. Fifteen Grandchildren: Jasmine Martin (heramie) of Normal, IL, George Boykin, III, Miles Boykin, Tramaine A. Harvey, Brock J. Boykin, Alea N. McNeal, Alexus D. Boykin, ViVeka M. Boykin, Tatyana M. Boykin, Elijah R. Boykin, LaTrice Jackson, Tatiana Boykin, Lanice Coleman, LaDonna Coleman, LaErwin Boykin. Four Great Grandchildren: Kobe Walker, Pia Martin, Aanisa Patton, Tre J. Patton. Eleven Siblings: Lora Wilson Jenkins Oakland, CA, Daniel Knight (Vera) Pearl, MS, Mammie K. Lloyd (Arthur) Baker, LA, Ben Knight (Lida) Pearl, MS, PJ Knight (Lula) Pearl, MS, Joann Johnson Pearl, MS, John T. Knight (Helen) Pearl, MS, Gennell Salomon (Frantz) Chicago, IL, Linda Washington (Isaiah) Pearl MS, Felix Knight (Sherondia) Pearl, MS, and Roosevelt Knight (Renae) Pearl, MS. Also, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss her dearly.
