Mrs. Ira Bell Morris

September 12, 1925, Mother Ira Bell Mangum Morris was born the eldest of ten children to the late Marsett Mangum and Idell Mikel Mangum of Braxton, Mississippi. She was a loving family member and dedicated friend who took advantage of every opportunity she could to encourage others and share the goodness of God. She lived a life of integrity, strong character, and service to others. Her encouraging words and perseverance will be remembered by many. Mother Ira joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Brandon, Mississippi, and was baptized at an early age. She was a faithful member for many years. She was a Sunday School Teacher and gladly served in whatever capacity she was needed. She devoted herself faithfully to serve her Savior and to be of service to others. She received her formal education from Rankin County Public Schools. She received her Nursing Assistant Certificate from Hinds Community College and served in this capacity for more than twenty years at Hudspeth Regional Center in Whitfield, Mississippi. The joy of Mother Ira's life was her family. She met and married Roger Morris, Sr. and to this union five sons and three daughters were born. Mother Ira united with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church to be with her husband. She was active in many church auxiliaries. She served faithfully in the Morning Star Missionary Society, sang in the Church Choir, taught Sunday School and won many young hearts for the Master. She was a Life Member of The Spring Hill District Women's Institute. Every minute of her day was filled with helpful, absorbing works. She visited the sick and sorrowing, cooked, sewed and made garments for the needy. Her life was full, rich, and happy. On the Morning of November 29, 2021, Mother Ira was called home to her Father at her home in Florence, Mississippi. Her daughter, Linda, her grandson Branden, and her beloved sitter, Ethel was with her when she made her transition. Her work here on earth was done and she could take her eternal rest. "His Lord said to him, well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord" Matthew 25:23. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Left to cherish her memory are 8 children, Roger (Linda) Morris, Richland Mississippi; Ira J. (JoAnn) Morris, Orlando, Florida; M.(Grace) Morris, Jackson, Mississippi; Linda Burton, Florence, Mississippi; Darrell L. (Linda) Dora (Charles) Coleman, Raymond, Mississippi; Maxine (Charles) Thompson, Jackson, Mississippi; Rev. James E. (Tommye Jo) Morris, Jackson, Mississippi; 20 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, two sisters, John Ella (Willie) Morris, Pearl, Mississippi; Pinex, and Willie Kaye Hamb, both of Chicago, Illinois, one brother, Fletcher L. Mangum, of Greenville, Mississippi, two Sisters in-law, Myra Morris, Detroit, Michigan, Ruby Joyce Thorton, Chicago, Illinois, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, Unievieve Weathersby and Annie Pearl Walker
