Mrs. Lillie Mae Harvey-Ferrell

Lille Mae Harvey was born in 1942 in Morton, Mississippi, where she spent her early years. Driven by a desire to make an impact, she attended Alcorn University and pursued a degree in Home Economics and Special Education. Her dynamic personality and sharp wit often found her chosen by her peers as a lead for school event promotions and special gatherings. In college, Lillie was known for crafting her own stylish outfits and clothing designs. It was here where she met her husband, Edward. The couple relocated to the East Coast to the Massachusetts area, where she shaped the futures of hundreds of young people through teaching while her husband served as an officer in the U.S. Army. Together they had three children, Eddie, Natasha, and Erick. Lillie's commitment to education equity and the future of our children also remained a constant part of who she was. She poured her energy, spunk, and strong-willed determination into making sure students were supported throughout her tenure as a teacher. In her own continuing education, in addition to multiple ongoing academic certifications, she also garnered dual masters degrees. She taught in the Yonkers school system for many years before establishing a career in Mt. Vernon, New York where she lived and recently retired. Lillie was extremely creative. Her love for fashion and style continued throughout her life. Those close to her knew her to be a crafty designer with an eye for detail. Anyone who knew Lillie also knew how much she loved to work in her yard and garden creating huge shrubbery arrangements and floral designs for neighborhood display. With the charm and loving soul of a protective mother and a teacher, Lillie was also tough as nails. She was never one to bite her tongue or hesitate from sharing her opinion, and she would likewise praise and show loving excitement about things she liked and appreciated. With these qualities, she would push the people those she loved and cared about towards excellence and demand quality within everyone she encountered. Lillie made an immediate impact on everyone she met. For her outstanding tenure as an educator, Lillie Mae has been honored with proclamations from The New York State Senate, Westchester County, & The City Of Mount Vernon for exemplary lifetime service while guiding, teaching, and positively impacting several generations of youth and students. Lillie is survived by her three children, Eddie, Natasha, & Erick, six grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and additional extended family members.
