Mr M J Mangum

A Time to Be Born MJ Mangum, the oldest of six children of the late R. G. Mangum and Elnora Mangum Purvis. MJ was born February 25, 1932, in Rankin County, MS. Both parents and three brothers, Willie James, A. J. Mangum and Commic Harris preceded him in death. A Time to Live Life's journey led MJ down a love path where he met the love of his life, Mary Dell Fletcher. The two were joined in Holy Matrimony December 1952. (651/2 years) To this union three children were born, Elnora "Little Bessie, "Marvin James and Willie Morris. MJ joined Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later joined New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Lowery Griffith, where he became a deacon. MJ was known for his talent of carpentry. He built and remolded many homes. His favorite specialty was building churches. He was a self-proclaimed sport analyst that could predict winners and losers of high schools, colleges, and professional sports. He would often get upset with a team when his predictions were wrong. He didn't stop there. He was a self-proclaimed local political analyst. He was very passionate about campaigning for politician. MJ was a Civil Rights Advocate. He was a warrior against injustice. He encouraged many to get registered and get out and vote. He will be missed by his family, friends and local politicians. A Time to Die MJ transitioned from his earthly tabernacle to be with his Heavenly Father, on July 22, 2018, at approximately 8:36 pm at his daughter's home in Brandon, MS. A Time to Mourn He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife for 651/2 years, Mary Dell Fletcher Mangum, one daughter, Elnora "Lil Bessie" Palmer (Carl), two sons, Marvin Mangum (Linda Dase) Mangum and Willie (Jackie) Mangum all of Brandon, Mississippi, one sister, Bessie Purvis of Puckett, Mississippi, two brothers, Willie Earl (Ella Lee), J. Lee "Robert" Mangum (Barbara) of Brandon, Mississippi, two nephews who were raised together as brothers, Wilson Mangum (Jo Ann) of Brandon, Mississippi and Jerome "L.J." Mangum (Joyce) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He leaves to cherish his memories five grandchildren, LaCorey Palmer (who he raised and called his own) Cortez Davis, Nikita (Tootsie) Palmer, Melindia (Momo) Anderson, Marcale Mangum, and also Five Great-Grandchildren, Lakendrick, Kentavious, Joseph (JoJo), Jordan, Addison, MaCayla, and Zion.
