Mrs. Panessa Lavern Johnson

Panessa Lavern Miller Johnson was born on December 4, 1960, in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Dorothy Mae Miller and the late Jesse D. Washington Sr. She was raised by her maternal grandmother Florice Miller after the passing of her beloved mother Dorothy Mae Miller. Panessa entered eternal rest on Friday, November 10, 2023, at St. Dominic's Hospital surrounded by family. Panessa attended Carter High School until integration, later attended and graduated Brandon High School (Class of 1978). She furthered her education at Hinds Community College where she received her Pharmacy License and began her career as a Pharmacy Technician at Eckerd's Drug Store where she retired after 29 years. Panessa then began her career at MS Department of Corrections in 1997 where she retired this past June. Panessa spent much of her life working multiple jobs, balancing family life, shopping at her favorite retail stores (Belk and JCPenney) and watching her favorite teams the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Lakers, Panessa joined Greater New Friendship M. B. Church in her youth and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor A. L. Burns. In adulthood, she joined Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church where she served on the Usher Board, a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Sunday School Secretary and recently joined the Youth Department. Panessa was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Mae Miller and Jesse D. Washington, Sr., her maternal grandparents George and Florice Miller, her paternal grandparents Noble and Dora Lee Washington along with uncles, aunts, and cousins. Panessa leaves to cherish her memory, one (1) son Darrius Eubanks; two (2) sisters, Flora Anthony of Brandon, Mississippi, and Valarie Washington Bailey (Steve) of Riverside, California; one (1) brother Jesse D. Washington, Jr. of Rockford, Illinois; three (3) aunts Jannie L. Dawson of Brandon, Mississippi, Doris Angrum of Terry, Mississippi and Jerel Miller of Brandon, Mississippi; two (2) godmothers, Myrtis Dorsey and Bobbie Harvey both of Brandon, Mississippi; one (1) godson, Jordan Spann; one (1) godbrother, Ava S. Harvey, Sr. (Leslee), one (1) godsister, Latasha H. Jones (Eric), and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and loved ones.
