Mr. Dennis H. Owens

Deacon Dennis Harvie Owens was born August 9, 1941. He was the third of four children born to the late James & Marjorie Owens. He accepted Christ at an early age at Rehobeth CME Methodist Church, Letohatchee, Alabama. Dennis (known as Brother O) was a Deacon and devoted member until his death at Rock Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor LaCharles Brister, in Braxton, Mississippi. Deacon Dennis, graduated from Dunbar High School in Ramer, Alabama, then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. He united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Ellis E. Bellfield. Thereafter, he joined the Army and served from June 8, 1964 - June 17,1966. Upon return became a member at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dennis Owens met and married Lois Dobbins on June 21, 1969, and from this union came two children. He was a loving devoted husband and father, who showed and expressed his love for God. Deacon Dennis was very active in his children's, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's lives, demonstrating the importance of having faith. With his love for singing, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Deacon Dennis was an active member of St. John's Male Chorus and Choir as well as the State Convention Choir. In Braxton, Mississippi, he was a member of the Rock Hill Church Choir and Masonairs Male Chorus. The love, wisdom, and faith that he embodied will never be forgotten. He is also preceded in death by his brother Earnest James Owens and sister Julia Ann (Owens) Byrd and grandson James Owens. He leaves behind a legacy of love & cherished memories to his Loving Wife of 55 years Lois Owens; Two children: Carol Owens, Pearl, MS and Dennis (Rachel) Owens, Minneapolis, MN; Eight Grandchildren: Quintessa, Lorenzo (Naperiesha), Brittany (Chris) Brown, Auryanna, Alexis, Elijah, India, Amelia; Six Great Grandchildren: Amira Owens, La'Niyah Smith, Avi Jefferson, Malik Smith, Mekhi Smith, Zamir Owens; One loving Sister: Charlene Bellfield; Special niece Sandra Byrd, Charlotte, NC, Six Sister In-Law: Betty (James) King, Clarks, LA, Joyce Brooks, Pearl, MS, Judy Owens, Minneapolis, MN, Marilyn (J.D.) Brown, Clarks, LA, and Three Brother In-Law: Clarence (Debra) Dobbins, Monroe, LA, Dennis (Kim) Dobbins, Monroe, LA, and Jimmy (Chris) Dobbins, Minneapolis, MN, Special friend: Phyllistine Cass and Bruce Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church families too numerous to name.
