Mr. Emmitt Harper, Jr.

Mr. Emmitt Harper Jr was bom May 23, 1943 in Plorence, MS to the late Edna Butler Harper and Emmitt Clarence Harper Sr. in Florence, MIS On Monday September 30, 2024, he made his heavenly transition at his home in Florence, MS. He was the 9th of eleven children, he also preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Mae Lee Harper, and four brothers William Harper, Lee Artis Harper, Willie Earnest Harper Sr, and Eamest Lee Harper, three sisters, Mae Etta Riles, Geraldine Girdle and Dorothy Nell Michael. Emmitt accepted Christ at a carly age at Old Enoch Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jefferson Morris and later under Pastor Dwight Gray, during his time he sung in the church choir. Emmitt attended school at Enoch Grove, Mt Olive, New Hope and Mclaunn Attendance Center. He worked at MPI in Chicago IL, for several years and also at Chloride Battery Plant also known as Exide for over 40 years as a machine operator. Emmitt was united in Holy matrimony on October 31, 1965 to his sweetheart Audrey Mae Lee Harper of 59 years within this union 6 children were born two preceded him in death, Margie Brown- Banks and Rick Brown. Emmitt was also known as " Bob" to everyone who knew him. He loved anything to do with outside such as gardening, doing his lawn, working on his chicles, and his favorite thing relaxing under his carport and waving at the cars passing by. In his later years when he realized he had seen a lot of birthdays he would always say " You know I had a lot of birthdays, I don't think like I use 10". He also enjoyed going out to get his lunch at his lavorite place Grant's Kitchen and doing his weekly shopping. He leaves to cherish and honor his legacy; his children; Aretha Thomas (Florence, MS), Lois Harper-Stamps (Florence, MS), Fernandis Brown (Florence, MS), Charles Brown (Florence, MS), he was also a loving grandfather to his grandchildren; Terrelle and Jerelle Brown ( Chicago, IL), Tassica Stamps (Pearl, MS), Jamarius Thomas (Brandon, MS), Tyson Body (Columbus, OH), Tylan Body (Richland, MS), Charles "Trey" Banks (Clinton, MS), Calvonte Thomas (Florence, MS); Great Grandchildren; Janaiah Jones (Pearl, MS), Raygen Pirtle (Pearl, MS). three sisters; Pauline Morris (Chicago, IL), Willie Lois Quick (Florence, MS), Evelyn Harper (Jackson, MS); three sister in laws; Evelyn Harper (Florence, MS), Katie Harper (Jackson, MS), Pearl Lec (Florence, MS); two brother in laws; Shellie Lee (Indianapolis,IN), Minister John-Lec(Joann)-(Florence, MS); special nieces; Vanessa Lewis-Gray (Madison, MS), Jennie Cannon (James) (Florence, MS), Gloria Harper (Florence, MS), Minister Jacquelin Johnson (Minister Alphonso Johnson)- (Jackson, MS), Tosha Harper (Florence, MS) ,Bettie Mae Wells (Florence, MS), Dorothy Harper (Florence, MS); Special Nephews; Pastor Willie Earnest E. Harper (Mendenhall, MS), Henry Ball (Florence, MS) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
