Mrs. Erma Lee Hobson Redd

Robert and Ora Lee Hobson gave birth to their fourth child on October 4, 1939 in Rankin County MS-Erma Lee Hobson. Erma grew up in a Christian home and learned to serve the Lord at an early age while attending Jerusalem Baptist Church and Silver Rena Baptist Church, both in Brandon. She was taught the values of honesty and hard work which she demonstrated throughout her life. Erma was educated at Carter High School in Brandon, MS and later became employed at General Cable for nearly forty years. She retired due to health reasons, but that didn't slow her down. Over the next eighteen years, she was employed at Kids ARE Kids of Brandon, located near her home. She made the teachers' graduation corsages every year and cooked meals for them regularly. She also spent time outside mowing the yard, cutting weeds, hedging bushes, while ensuring her colorful plants were in full bloom. She was a "go getter" until the rightful age of 84. When she was not outside in the yard, she was sewing, which was a great passion of hers. The back room was filled with clothes from people in the community. She was "The Seamstress of Luckney Road." During the onset of COVID, Erma purchased a second sewing machine so that she and her daughter, Connie, could make masks for all the front line workers. In 1956, Erma married the love of her life, Leonard Redd, Sr., and they were blessed with three wonderful children, Leonard, Jr., Connie and Eric. They were happily married for forty-eight years until his death in 2004. While married to Leonard, she joined Taylorsville United Methodist Church and served in many capacities: Co-ley leader, member of the administrative team, Sunday School teacher, morning church service worship leader, and trustee. She also organized the custodial duties and kitchen duties, and assisted the pastor with communion service. Erma, also called Granny, Momma Redd and GG, meant what she said. She was a straightfandard, e- one they gone her h tove her children grandchildren and those she loved most. She often said, "Them phones gone get y'all in trouble." Now that she has faithfully executed all her life's responsibilities, the Lord has called her from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her memory, three children: Connie Redd Jenkins (Obadiah), Eric Reda (Alisha), and Leonard Redd, Jr, (Sandra) (deceased); one play son: Mike Purry (Lisa; three sisters: Pearl Bray, Betty Burnett and Bobbie Hobson (deceased); no others: George Hobson (deceased) and James Hobson; grandchildren: Corey Jenkins (Tiara, Timothy Jenkins (deceased), Ashleigh Nickleberry (Raymond), Michelle Stanton (Arnold Il), Nasrin Redd, Xavier Redd, Kaylynn Redd and rika Ry members agreat grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
