Ms. Flora Mae Thompson

Flora Mae Ainsworth-Thompson was born February 28, 1928 to the union of the late Fred and Lucille Ainsworth. She was one of 12 children and began her early education attending Brown Hill, Ellisville and Greenhill segregated schools. She learned to love God at an early age by accompanying her mother, with the help of her older sister, Caldonia to the Brown Hill M.B. Church. She was member of Brown Hill until uniting with the love of her life, Archelous Thompson. After their union, she relocated to Enoch Grove M.B. Church and later settled as a member of Greater Enoch Grove MB Church. Where she served faithfully until death. There at Greater Enoch Grove, Mother Thompson served as a Dining Committee President, Deaconess and sung in the choir. Living a life of service, she displayed this kind of love by visiting the sick, preparing meals and cleaning homes of those needing assistance. Outside of her own children, she had a gift of loving on people as a mother and grandmother to so many whom she called her own. Mother Thompson was a tireless worker and spent time as a Domestic Household Coordinator, worked at Briar Hill Nursing Home, and ended her career as a Culinary Specialist at Richland Attendance Center, now known as Richland High School. She had a passion for landscaping and that was evident in the beautiful array of flowers she would plant around her home. She also enjoyed planting and growing vegetables in her large gardens. Mother Thompson was also known to be a fierce competitor while playing various sports with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mama Flora Mae was married to the late Deacon Archelous Thompson in 1947. And they lived a life of happily ever after for 66 years. To this union 5 children were born. Bertha Jean and Calvin Thompson preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, 3 children. Jo Ann T. Smith (limmy-deceased), Vernita T. Knox (Shawn-deceased) and Vivian Jackson. She also leaves 6 grandchildren: Archelous M. Knox (LaRetha), LaShanna Jackson-Watkins (Eugene), Shawn J. Knox (Tavia), Michael Jackson, Jr (Melissa), April Jackson and Jenene Knox; 10 great grandchildren: Archelous Knox, III, Amari Knox, Lauryn Knox, Lindsey Shears, Jaida Williams, Jayden Jackson, Michael Jackson, III, Za'Riyah Jackson, Noah Archelous Jackson and Sage Odom. 1 great, great granddaughter Journiee Shears. Mama Flora leaves a host of nieces and nephews and many she called her own. And special mention to two people who were dear to her heart as adopted grandchildren (Makiya Ariana & Jeramy Cox).
