Mr. J. L. "Robert" Mangum

J. Lee, affectionally known as "Robert" by his friends, loved ones & associates; was a man full of life and laughter, always ready to lend a helping hand. Family: Robert, born the youngest of his parents' children, Elnora Mangum Purvis and RG Mangum, which both proceeded him in death. Siblings: Proceeded him in death: Willie James Mangum, A. J. Mangum, M. J. (Mary Dell) Mangum, Commic Harris and Bessie Mangum (A. V.) Purvis. His departure leaves three siblings a lifetime of loving memories: Willie Earl (Ella) Mangum (Brandon, MS); Jerome (Joyce) Mangum (Ocean Springs, MS) and Wilson (Joann) Mangum (Brandon, MS). His Education: Graduate - McLaurin High School, Florence, MS Welding Degree - Hinds Jr. College, Raymond, MS Further studies - Jackson Enterprise Center, Jackson, MS His Career: In late 1960s, Robert began his career as an assembly line operator for the Fisher Body Plant in Flint, MI. After a brief stay in Michigan, he returned to MS and secured employment at MS State Hospital, Whitfield, MS. As Robert continued to further his career, he secured employment with United Gas Pipeline, Pearl, MS, where he fulfilled the capacity as a Pipeline Inspector. Later, he became a Certified Welder; subsequently becoming an Engine Operator within the Compressor Station at Koch Industries (formerly known as United Gas Pipeline), for approximately 20 years. Robert was a real jokester; quick as a wink with a witty response. He loved being around family and friends. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, which included fishing, hunting and gardening. H was also an avid cattleman, presenting some of the finest livestock in Rankin County. He took pride in raising and being personally responsible for the growth and development of his cattle. He and the love of his life, Barbara Hobson, met by happenstance, that developed into a long everlasting friendship. The friendship became a loving courtship with mutual affection. Robert and his bride, Barbara knew they wanted to spend eternity together and decided to make Brandon their home. They traveled extensively locally and internationally. The Lord blessed them with over 48 years of marriage in holy matrimony. His earthly departure leaves many hearts shattered: A loving son, Reginald. A heartbroken grandson, Omari. A beautiful granddaughter, Kyla. A loving daughter, Vickie (Lenard) Jones, Sr. Grandsons, Lenard, Jr. & Gregory & 3 Great Grandchildren And many many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
