With profound sorrow tempered by unshakable faith in Almighty God, we gather to celebrate the life and legacy of James Ray Morris, affectionately known as "Boy Frog", a beloved father, brother, and cherished soul whom the Master, in His infinite wisdom and divine sovereignty, called from labor to reward. Though our hearts tremble beneath the weight of sudden loss, we stand anchored in the blessed hope that Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. In the providential wisdom of Almighty God, the earthly journey of James Ray Morris, began on July 30, 1971, in Brandon, Mississippi. He was born to the late Gladys Myles Morris and Josephus Miller, entering this world with a spirit that would one day leave an indelible imprint upon all who knew him. Scripture reminds us that there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven," "To everything and James' appointed season culminated with his heavenly transition Tuesday, February 17, 2026. James Ray Morris, journeyed through this life with a spirit marked by resilience, authenticity, and undeniable presence. He was a man of strong conviction and deep emotion one whose laughter and antics could brighten weary hearts and whose strength often became refuge for those he loved. His life, though touched by human imperfection, radiated sincerity and devotion. For he may not have been perfect, but he was ours - and that sacred belonging binds our hearts to his memory forever. James Ray Morris was a proud graduate of Pearl High School, Class of 1990 where he donned the number 40 as a running back for the Pearl Pirates, carrying with him a spirit of perseverance and diligence that would characterize his life's journey. A dedicated and hardworking man, he faithfully provided through his employment with Sysco for eighteen years, as well as with Merchants, Southern Beverage, TW, and Lanter Delivery Service. One of his many accomplishments includes being the owner and proprietor of Morris Lawn Care. His work ethic reflected the biblical truth that "whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might," and he labored with quiet strength and unwavering commitment. He loved with intensity, lived with passion, and left an indelible imprint upon every life privileged to encounter him. As a father, he was a covering; as a brother, a companion through life's triumphs and tempests; as a friend, steadfast and true. James Ray Morris embodied the complexity of humanity, just as most of us - flawed yet faithful, tested yet enduring — a living testimony that God's grace sustains us even through unfinished chapters. At an early age, James Ray Morris embraced the transformative grace of Jesus Christ, understanding that faith is not inherited but intentionally received. He united with Greater New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Brandon, Mississippi under the pastoral ship of Rev. R. L. Odom, where his spiritual foundation was nurtured. Later, he joined St. Paul COGIC under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Jesse Kelly. There, his faith matured into active ministry. James Ray Morris did not simply occupy pews —he occupied purpose. He served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, Van Driver, Choir Member, Street Ministry worker, Pastor's Aide Committee member, and Deacon. In time, through dedication and divine calling, he was ordained as an Elder and later returned to reunite with his Greater New Friendship Church family. James Ray Morris shared many cherished years of life and family with Cassandra, and through that union God blessed them with three beloved daughters: Cortney Ragland, Jamesia Morris, and Brianna Morris. As a father, he embraced the sacred responsibility spoken of in Scripture, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). His love, guidance, and covering remain woven into the lives of his children as an enduring testament to his legacy. James also found immeasurable delight in his role as a proud grandfather to Jamerion Morris and Morgan Butler, whose laughter and presence brought renewed joy to his heart — a living reminder that "children's children are the crown of old men" (Proverbs 17:6). Today, tears flow freely because love ran deeply. The silence left behind feels immeasurable, yet we find consolation in the eternal promise declared in Scripture: "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. "We believe that James Ray Morris now rests beyond pain, beyond struggle, and beyond earthly burdens, clothed in celestial peace and embraced by everlasting mercy. Though death sought to interrupt his story, it could not extinguish his legacy. With hearts forever touched by his love, he leaves to carry forward his legacy his three devoted daughters: Cortney Ragland of Texas, Jamesia Morris, and Brianna Morris both of Pearl, Mississippi, whose lives stand as a living reflection of his enduring guidance and fatherly devotion. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Jamerion Morris and Morgan Butler, both of Pearl, Mississippi, who brought immeasurable joy and renewed light to his heart. He is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Alvin Morris (Cheryl of Pearl, Mississippi, and Terry Lynn Morris (Kisha) of Brandon, Mississippi, whose bond of brotherhood remained steadfast through every season of life. His Aunts, Glendora Myles (John) of Brandon, Mississippi; Ruby Sims of Jackson, Mississippi; Judy Gooch of Jackson, Mississippi; Uncles MJ Myles (Varnell) of Brandon, Mississippi; Ollie Sims (Donna) ; Erin Sims, both of Jackson, Mississippi; Robert Sims (Melinda) of Texas; He also leaves a treasured friend, Sharon Henry, along with his devoted and lifelong friends, Arthur McDaniel, Dracy Love, Henry Hobson and Jimmie Smith whose friendship stood as a testament to loyalty, shared memories, and unwavering connection. In addition, he leaves a host of loving cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to honor his memory and cherish the indelible mark he leaves upon their hearts. Sleep on now, James Morris. Take your rest in the arms of the Savior. Your work on Earth is finished, your crown awaits, and your memory shall forever live among us.
