Libbie Jean Benson

Our Grandmother was born Libbie Jean Buckhalter on Friday April 14, 1939 in Hazlehurst, MS as the first daughter of the late Ms. Emma Fair. Her mom, Emma saw fit that she would be raised ,nurtured, and cared for by Mrs. Alfoncia Adams Buckhalter and Mr. Johnny Bell Buckhalter. Our Grandmother answered her Heavenly call on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. My Grandmother grew up in Fannin, MS a place she loved and held dear to her heart. She professed her life to Christ and accepted him as her personal Savior at an early age at Fannin Baptist and was baptized under the leadership of Reverend R.V. Banks. She completed her education through Goshen Fannin High School. Her daughter Gail Shoto "my mom" preceded her in death just two years ago. She worked and retired from the St. Dominic Hospital where she was loved and met many lifetime friends. She was very committed to what she did and loved her family with all her being. Her last few years were spent at the Brandon Court Nursing Home, a place she loved because of all the friends she accumulated. Brandon Court was a intricate part of her life, because of all the activities and programs that got her in a position to be a missionary. Our Grandmother loved God and wasn't afraid to witness about him where ever she went. Her Sister Bernice Tillman preceded her in death. Loving memories will forever be cherished by her family: loving daughter, Alfonette Evans of Brandon, MS; son, Larry Buckhalter, Sr. of Brandon, MS one son-in-law Henry Shoto Sr. of Pearl MS; Five Grandchildren: LaQuanda (Ricky)Anderson, Henry Shoto, Jr. Derrick Shoto, Sr. of Pearl MS; Andy Evans of Brandon MS and Larry Buckhalter, Jr. of Florence, MS Four sisters: Shirley Jean (Clay) Redd of Jackson MS; Carolyn (Leon) Thomas of St. Louis, MO; Betty Fair of Jackson, MS and Edna Syed of Clinton, MS One brother: Larry Fair of Hazlehurst, MS Five Great-Grandchildren: Daelynn Shoto, Ricky Demonte Anderson, Derrick Shoto, Jr, Reed Anderson and Paxton Shoto all of Pearl, MS A special Cousin John "honey-pump" Adams and Alene Adams and a special friend Mrs. Alberta Shoto; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
