Mrs. Louciel Gibson-Norwood

Mrs. Louciel G. Norwood was born October 12, 1942 in Fannin, Mississippi to Mr. Milton and Mrs. Bernice Gibson. Her parents, brothers (Rubin Earl, Samuel T. and baby David) and one nephew, Spencer Gibson, Gulfport, Mississippi all preceded her in death. On April 19, 2021, Louciel left this earthly home and moved upstairs to her heavenly home. She grew up in Fannin, Mississippi and later moved to Ormand Hill Community in Leesburg, Mississippi. also resided in San Francisco, California. As a military wife, she resided at Ft. Leavenworth in Leavenworth, Kansas, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Hood, Killen, Texas and Wildflicken, Germany. She was a life long teacher/ educator for over thirty (30) years at educational institutions such as at Harper High School, Mendenhall, Mississippi, Natchez College (now Alcorn State University), Lorman, Mississippi, Meridian School Systems, Meridian, Mississippi, Richland, Mississippi, Northwest Rankin, Flowood, Mississippi, Pelahatchie Attendance Center, Pelahatchie, Mississippi and Wildflicken, Germany. She obtained her Bachelors, Masters and Specialist degrees in Early Elementary Education at Jackson State College, presently known as Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Mt. Helm Baptist Church, Fannin, Mississippi. Her religious affiliations was a Bible Class and lifelong Sunday School teacher, Missionary and Deaconess at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Rawls Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, and Holiness Baptist Bible Church. She also was the Usher President at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was the Rankin County Usher Association President and President of the Rankin County Institute. She was a life long Bible Historian and Scholar and she had many books and Biblical reference materials. She became a licensed and ordained minister. She was active in many other ministries including community outreach and nursing Home Ministry at Crossgates of Brandon, Mississippi and Hillcrest of Magee, Mississippi. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening and spending time with family. She leaves to mourn her husband of fifty-one (51) years, Pastor Willie E. Norwood; two sons, Anthony (Minnie) Gibson of Pelahatchie, Mississippi and Allen Mackey of Springfield, Illinois; one daughter Mari Gibson of Pearl, Mississippi and an adopted family, the Capels of Braxton, Mississippi, eleven (11) grandchildren and four (4) great grandchildren; two (2) aunts, Doretha Smith and Peggy Walker both of Jackson, Mississippi; one uncle, Douglas Scott of O'Fallon, Illinois; one (1) brother-in-law, James Norwood, two (2) sisters-in-law, Betty Norwood of Braxton, Mississippi and Cassandra Norwood of California and two (2) nieces, Phyllis and Sheila Gibson of Gulfport, Mississippi.
