Mrs. Mae Sue Green

Mrs. Mae Sue Green was born on April 18, 1947, in Scott County, Mississippi, to the late Henry and Annie Mae Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Annie Mae Jones; her beloved husband, Richard T. Green; her brothers, Charlie Jones, Henry Louis Jones, and Roosevelt Jones; and other cherished loved ones who now welcome her into eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughter, Hope Williams; her son, Terance Williams; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives she touched in many meaningful ways. She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Bishop Sammie L. Rankin of Niagara Falls, New York; the late Gladys Rankin; Ada Ruth Ickom of Jackson, Mississippi; the late Elder Charlie Lewis Jones and his wife, Juanita Jones; Dr. Hattie Pearl Harris and husband Dr. Terrell Harris, Jr. of Harvest, Alabama; Dorothy Beddingfield and husband Leroy Beddingfield of Clinton, Mississippi; Vernestien Martin and husband Albert Martin of Wesson, Mississippi; Superintendent Abraham Jones and wife Earlene Jones of Forest, Mississippi; Bettye Sangster of Forest, Mississippi; and Levada Moore of Lake, Mississippi. Mae Sue was raised in Scott County, where she developed the values of faith, hard work, education, and service that would guide her throughout her life. She graduated from ET Hawkins and later pursued higher education at Jackson State University, earning a double master’s degree in education and administration. Her commitment to learning reflected her belief that education could transform lives and open doors for future generations. For 38 years, Mae Sue faithfully served the students, families, and educators of the Rankin County School District. She began her career as a teacher at Richland Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students with her care, patience, and encouragement. Through her dedication, strong leadership, and true love for children, she later became the principal of Pelahatchie Elementary School, where she eventually retired. During her time there, she left a lasting mark of excellence, compassion, and leadership that continues to be felt throughout the school community. To many, she was more than an educator, she was a mentor, an advocate, and a role model whose impact reached far beyond the classroom. Even after retirement, her love for children never stopped. She continued serving as a substitute teacher at McLaurin Attendance Center, staying connected to the students and doing what she loved most. Mae Sue was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Richard Green, on June 30, 1985. Together, they shared 35 beautiful years of love, companionship, and cherished memories. Their marriage was built on faith, devotion, and a deep, lasting love for one another. A woman of deep faith, Mae Sue worshiped at Salvation Church of God in Christ under the leadership of her beloved brother, Abraham Jones. Her faith served as the foundation of her life and was evident in the kindness, wisdom, and grace she extended to everyone she met. Outside of her professional accomplishments, Mae Sue found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved spending time with her sisters, friends, and loved ones, creating memories filled with laughter and fellowship. She enjoyed gardening and had a special love for flowers, finding beauty in every bloom she nurtured. She loved exercising and treasured the time she spent working out and enjoying fellowship with friends. Most of all, she cherished her family. Her greatest joy came from loving, supporting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mae Sue’s life was a testament to service, strength, leadership, and love. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, the lessons she taught, the lives she touched, and the love she shared will live on forever. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving daughter, Hope Williams; her son, Terrence Williams; six grandchildren; 5 great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, former students, colleagues, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
