Ms. Minnie Lee Jenkins

Aunt Minnie was born in Pearson, MS on May 3, 1926 at 5:30 P.M. She was the first child, and only daughter born to the late Elder Willie Jenkins, Sr. and the late Sis. Marie Garrison Jenkins. She was the pride and joy of her parents, who showered her with love and care. Aunt Minnie was an active member of Sweet Rest Church. She attended Sweet Rest School where she was valedictorian of her Sixth Grade Class. She worked hard to do her best. She took pride in everything she did. In 1948, Aunt Minnie moved to Detroit, MI following other relatives who were moving north. She lived in Detroit for 68 years. She worked at many hotels working her way up to Supervisor. She loved her job, even when she had to work on weekends. She didn't complain. She did what had to be done. Aunt Minnie joined Zion Chapel Church where she was an active member in both Sunday School and Church. She loved being in the Second Sunday Choir. While living in Detroit, Aunt Minnie was a caregiver and a caretaker to family and friends. She had a key to their homes and their cars. She loved to care for her relatives. She was the caregiver everyone could and did rely on. Aunt Minnie loved her family, especially her brothers who lovingly looked after her thought out the years. She would tell anyone and everyone about her brothers. She let everyone know: "I have six brothers and no sisters." Her love for her brothers was undeniable. She Had a special relationship with each one: Luther, Robert (deceased), Willie, Jr., Obadiah, Henry and Johnnie B. She had to change the "only girl' after her father remarried. Her father married Marcella Goodloe, after the death of her mother. To this union, her father and step-mother had three children: Janice, Thomas Melvin and Clifton. She loved them as only a big sister could with much love and advice. After years of living in Detroit, she called her brother, Willie to come get her. She returned home to her birthplace in 2016. She reunited with Sweet Rest Church. She attended until her health would no longer allow. As the days continued to come and go, her health continued to fail. She told her brother, Willie "I'm tired". The Lord saw that she was tired, and her pain was great. On June 6, 2018, the Lord called His daughter, Minnie Lee, home. She slept away peacefully at 2:45 P.M. She leaves to cherish her memories, her little brothers and sister: Luther (Opsy), Willie, Jr. (Vina), Obadiah, Henry (Earlene), Johnnie B. (Dorothy), Janice (Floyd), Thomas Melvin(Rose) and Clifton; along with her many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Aunt Minnie will truly be missed. She will be remembered not for her awards, works or service. She will be remembered for her recollection of our extensive family history of which she shared with us so many times. Let us not forget our family historian and the history she taught us.
