Ms. Ruby McConico

Ruby Lee Butler McConico, the sixth child in a siblinghood of nine, was born on February 3, 1932 to the late Mr. Ludie Butler and Mrs. Edna Hayes Butler Brown. She departed this world for her eternal home on March 3, 2019 while at home surrounded by her loving family. In addition to her parents, Ms. McConico was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Homer Butler, her sisters Earlene Butler, Mary Louise Brown Thomas, Geneva Brown Hines, and Anna Marie Leason , and daughter-in-law, Sharon Davenport. Ms. McConico accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized here at the Good Hope M. B. church as a child. Her early education was attained at the Steep Bank School. Later, she attended and graduated from Holy Ghost High School, in Jackson, Mississippi. Upon graduating high school, Ruby moved to New Orleans, Louisiana to work with her sister Earlean. After living in New Orleans for a few years, Ruby moved to Chicago, Illinois where she met her first husband Mr. Roy McConico. From this union, five children were born. Shelethia, Melenda, Michael, Anson and Tynua. Mr. Roy McConico passed away in 1981. Upon her husband's death, Ruby moved back home to Mississippi. She married Reverend Senior D. Potter, who is now deceased. Ruby worked at the Mississippi State Hospital as a nursing assistant for over 20 years and retired from there. She found joy in taking care of others and became an in-home care nurse upon her retirement. Ruby loved cooking, completing crossword puzzles, entertaining, dancing, listening to music, watching Wheel of Fortune, westerns, In the Heat of the Night with her great-grandbabies and spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruby never met a stranger and opened her heart and home to anyone who needed a hot meal or warm bed. Ruby had a warm heart, loved to laugh and joke around and was as sassy as they come. She taught many life lessons on love, courage and determination. She leaves to cherish her sweet memories: three daughters, Shelethia McConico-McCalip of Florence, MS, Melenda McConico of Chicago, Il and Tynua Farr of Kansas City, KS: Two sons: Micheal McConico Sr. (Patricia) of Chicago, II, and Anson McConico (Deanna) of Shreveport, LA. Two sisters: Era Thames and Christine Walker of Florence, MS, thirteen grand-children, 35 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
