Staff Sgt. Charles Earl Wilson

Charles Earl Wilson was born December 8. 1965, to the late Lilie Mae Dean Wilson and the late Charlie Wilson, Jr. Charles attended school in Madison County. He graduated from Velma Ware Jackson High School in 1983. After receiving his high school diploma, Charles shortly enlisted in the United States Army. During his military career, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. His time in the service was one of the highlights of his life. He served a tour in Saudi Arabia (Operation Desert Storm), before being honorably discharged and retiring in November 2003 at the age of 37. Growing up, Charles often tried to pretend he was hard-core, but was actually a very loving and selfless individual. A big kid at heart, Charles loved to laugh and joke around. When he would come home from the military, he thought he could beat up on everybody. He enjoyed every minute of his life, and he lived it his own special way. With such an infectious smile and sense of humor, he loved to tell everyone how "pretty" he was, even though we often told him that was a word to describe a girl. Yet, he never conceded. Charles was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and fixing things. He enjoyed sharing these pursuits with his brothers, nephews, and friends. Charles holds a special place in the hearts of all who have ever enjoyed the pleasure of his company. A true gentleman in every sense of the word, Charles made one feel at home whenever in his presence. Always only a phone call away, Charles was the one who would keep in touch with everyone. A quick-witted fellow, he would often call and have long conversations about life and beyond. He was extremely wise and loved to share his knowledge with anyone who would listen. Charles never met a stranger. Even upon initially meeting him, it was as if he had known you for a lifetime. Three siblings, Percy Branson, Carol Jean Wilson and Walter Levon Wilson preceded him in death. His mother-in-law, Mrs. Mattie Ruth James Morris and two brothers-in-law Benny Morris Jr. and Theron James also preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Rosetta Morris Wilson; two daughters: Kristina Lacy (Ryan) Jones and Renita Lacy; three step-children: Robert Lewis, Aspen J. Sumbry and Jasmine (Jerome) Maddox; seven grandchildren; seven siblings: Bernard (Cynthia) Wilson, Patricia (Ed) Hayes, Janieth (Gary Sr.) Adams, Jacqueline (Lin) Jones, Mary (Michael) Shearrill, Cleophous Wilson, Fletter Matlock; one honorary brother, Markese Allen; four in-laws Sergeant First Class Milton James, Major Calvin (Sharlene) Morris, Michael Morris, and Patricia (Tony) Freeman; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, family and friends who will miss him dearly. We will miss his crazy sense of humor, all his colorful antics, and his extensive phone calls. We loved him and will miss him dearly.
