Dr. Shawnnay Rene Davenport Horne

Dr. Shawnnay Rene Davenport-Horne, 43, of Braxton, Mississippi, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, alongside her unborn son, Kyson Gavriel Horne, who entered eternity in his mother's arms. Born on December 19, 1982, in Pomona, California, Shawnnay spent her early years on the West Coast before her family relocated to Braxton, Simpson County, Mississippi in 1996. It was there she planted her roots, found her community, and became the woman so many came to love. Those who knew her best knew to expect both her infectious laughter and the occasional clumsy moment that made everyone laugh even harder. She was full of life, quick with a joke, deeply loyal to her family and friends, and completely devoted to her children above all else. A natural competitor from her days playing basketball, running track, and cross country, Shawnnay carried that same drive into her academic life and professional career. She poured into the lives of her students each day as a math teacher at Hazelhurst Junior High School in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where she taught and inspired 6th and 7th grade students. A proud member of the Rho Iota Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, on April 27, 2019, Shawnnay wore her royal blue and white with honor and sisterhood. EDUCATIONAL - JOURNEY Associate of Arts - Hinds Community College Bachelor of Science - Jackson State University Master of Science in Early Childhood Education - Jackson State University Master of Arts in Teaching - Jackson State University Specialist in Educational Administration & Supervision - Jackson State University Doctor of Education in Early Childhood Education - Jackson State University She is survived by her husband, Euric Horne; her children, Alana Smith, Tyler Smith, and Mallorie Horne; her sisters, Natalie Byrd-Sudnik (Keegan Sudnik) and Jenell Stuston; her father, Michael Davenport; her grandmothers, Allena Daniels and Delores Weart; her aunt, Cheryl Davis; her mother-in-law, Elfrida Horne (Zeta), and sister-in-laws, Thoreausa Horne (Zeta), Zaundra Faseell (Zeta), and Francesca Horne, and a host of extended family and cherished friends whose lives she touched deeply. She was preceded in death by her mother, Reannette Lovette Daniels and father-in-law, Ollie Leon Horne. Dr. Shawnnay Rene Davenport-Horne will be remembered for her brilliance, her beautiful spirit, her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her students, and the joy she brought into every room. Though our hearts are broken, we celebrate a life well lived and a legacy that will live on forever.
