Ms. Sherri Denise Harris

Today, we come together to honor and celebrate the beautiful life and home-going of a remarkable woman who prayed with power, loved the Lord deeply, and lived with faith, purpose, and love for her family. Ms. Sherri Denise Harris was born on April 3, 1965, in Kankakee, IL, to Joyce D. Clark and the late Jessie Harris. She departed this life for her heavenly home on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the age of 60. She graduated from EastRidge High School in Kankakee, IL. And later earned her associates degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. Her faith in God was her anchor. She had a beautiful singing voice and often sang joyful melodies in praise of the Lord. As a dedicated church choir director, she shared her gift with others. A longtime member of Word and Worship Church under Pastor Jeffery Stallworth, she later joined Flag Chapel Baptist Church under Pastor Dexter Truesdale. Her blind faith and belief in the Word of God was steadfast and unshakable. She was known for being highly intelligent, wise, strong-willed, authentic, and beautiful. She was creative and athletic. She often challenged anyone with a wish to lose, to foot races. As she would say, she "left them in their dust." She was also a gifted artist. She would draw and paint her children's favorite cartoon characters on the walls of their rooms. She was so generous with her knowledge. She learned computers at an early age and developed a sharp, strategic business mind, which she eagerly passed on to her sons, confident she was giving them the keys to the future, and she was. She created an unbreakable bond with her daughter that she cherished. From her grace, poise, and style, she nurtured her mini me who became her best friend. She had passion for pushing others around her to be their best versions of themselves. She was brutally honest, so what came up came out, but you couldn't help but feel the love attached to the bite. At one point, she became known throughout her neighborhood as the "Candy Lady." She kept her home stocked with treats and laughter for all the kids. She was affectionately called "Mama" by many. Remembered as being stern, yet youthful and full of joy. She could sit with her children and Nanababies telling stories and laughing all day and night. Everyone that met her either felt a familiar bond, like long lost family, or they felt the intimidating energy of her tough love. One way or another they always became part of the family. Her home was a safe haven, and her presence was magnetic. Professionally, Ms Sherri was a force of excellence. She worked as a Project Specialist, earning respect everywhere she went. She often began a job and soon found herself in a leadership role because people trusted her and always saw the natural leader in her. Her creativity was one of her greatest gifts. She was imaginative, artistic, and visionary. That passion led her to write her own book, "Beautiful Black Girl," and to create a business producing unique, handcrafted pieces to sell from tables, bags, tumblers and more. Everything she made carried her personal touch. And often, her big heart would get the best of her, leading her to give many of her crafts away as gifts. To cherish her loving memories, she leaves Two sons: Delreco Harris (Tavoskii); Delshon Harris (Candace); One daughter: LaKysha D. H. Williams (Christopher); One step-son: Nicholas Thomas (Erica); Twelve pride and joy, Nanababies: nine from her maternal children, three from her stepson. She is also survived by her beloved mother, Joyce D. Clark; Six siblings: Phyllis Green, LaTricia Mitchell, LeRoy Mitchell (Vivian), Jessie Mitchell (Helen), Anthony Harris (April), and Harold Harris (LaTonya), and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, work family, and dear friends. Ms Sherri will forever be remembered for her resilience, infectious spirit, strength, and creativity. Though her earthly journey has ended, her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, as a lasting reflection of faith, hope, and authentic love.
