Ms. Tammie V. Thompson

Our beloved Tammie Vancilla Thompson, a cherished daughter, sister, friend, and surrogate mother to countless children, was born May 4, 1970 in Jackson, Mississippi to the parents of Thurmond A. Thompson and Argentina Thompson. Tammie was a creative spirit with a zeal for life, a love of people, and an innate ability to express laughter and joy. She graduated from Richland High School in Richland, Mississippi, after completing most of her primary education in Jackson, MS. Tammie had a passion for travel, having resided in several states and Puerto Rico before returning to Mississippi where she worked tirelessly for 25 years at the Mississippi State Hospital, retiring in 2022. Selfless in serving others, especially children and older adults, Tammie often went out of her way to purchase gifts, entertain, and protect those she loved and cared for. Above all, she dedicated her precious time to being present for others, helping anyone in need and lifting their spirits with her genuine care and warm smile. As a passionate advocate for the patients in the nursing home at the state hospital, she led her team to deliver the best care for the patients and coordinated memorable holiday parties for the patients and staff. Everyone knew how much Tammie loved the patients. Tammie was a loyal friend and ride-or- die partner. She delighted in celebrations, riding her bike, and socializing with family and friends. She translated her life experiences into laughter, using comedic humor, and a sassy attitude. Her smile and contagious energy could light up any room. Tammie enjoyed planning family reunions, biking events, and birthday parties for children. No expense was spared for a kid's party, as her budget was akin to Robin Hood and everyone had a great time. Your early departure breaks our hearts, but we will cherish the love and memories we have of you until you are reunited with your parents - Thurmond and Argentina Thompson; siblings - Angela Bland, Phyliss Thompson, Arnold Thompson, Tonjus Mason, Thurmond Thompson Jr. (Cynthia), and Tony Thompson (Elizabet); and your uncles - John Earl Johnson and Edward Earl Johnson (Patricia). You left an indelible mark of love and favor on your numerous nieces and nephews: (Angela) Adrienne Bland, Rashawn Bland and Ramel Bland; (Phyliss) David Grinston and Ivan Grinston; (Tonjus) Rekesha Thompson and Taylor Mason; (Thurmond jr.) Laquitta Thompson-Rawls, Thurmond Thompson Jr., Candice Brown, Natalia Anderson, William Morris, Nicholas Russell, Terrance Thompson; (Tony) Bienvenido de los Santos, Katina Bartolome, Tony Thompson and Jevante Thompson and a host of great/ grand nieces and nephews, God children and friends.
