Mrs. Velma Burton

VELMA BURTON was born on February 13, 1942 in Panther Burn, Mississippi to Leroy Perkins and Floydie Ingram. In 1967, SISTER VELMA BURTON started working at Mississippi State Hospital. She was a hard and dedicated worker. After 35 years of service, she retired in 2001. SISTER VELMA BURTON was baptized in 1969, and dedicated her life to Jehovah and served him faithfully until her time of death. SISTER BURTON married Johnnie Burton in 1975, who preceded her in death. SISTER BURTON departed life on February 11, 2023 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. SISTER BURTON is preceded in death by parents, Leroy and Floydie Perkins; both maternal and paternal grandparents; her husband, Johnnie Burton; three sons, Prince Perkins, Marvin Perkins and Eddie Perkins; one grandson, Christopher Black, Sr.; three brothers, Greene Weadlow, Dave Weadlow and Leroy Perkins, Jr.; one sister, Cora Heard; two nieces, Lisa Brooks and Jennie Jones; two nephews, Charles Brooks and Leonard Brooks. SISTER BURTON leaves to cherish her memories: her sister, Louise Young of Greenville, MS, two half sisters, Catherine Cooper (Will) of Dayton, OH and Susie Covington of Leland, MS; her wonderful daughter that any mother would dream to have, Francis Penister (Terry), a stepdaughter, Gwen Stevenson (Braxton) of Jackson, MS; three grandsons, Byron Perkins (Kelly) of Madison, MS, Terry Perkins and Dexter Penister, both of Pearl, MS; one granddaughter, Christine Moore of Houston, TX; four great grandsons, Byron Perkins, Jr. (Abby) and Nichols Perkins, both of Madison, MS, Roman Shelby of Houston, TX, Christopher Black, II of Toledo, OH; two great granddaughters, Talia Perkins of Madison, MS and Avin Alexander of Houston, TX; four nieces, Ola Reynolds of Toledo, OH, Patricia Porter (Larry), Stephanie Collier (Michael) and Vickie Brooks all of Jackson, MS; five nephews, Willie Brooks (Toya) of Brandon, MS, Vinston Brooks (Pamela) of Jackson, MS, Fenton Jones (Christine) of Dallas, TX, Louis Jones, Jr. and Leroy Jones both of Toledo, OH; a host of family, friends and great niece, Peewee, who was always one call away, and her Jehovah's Witnesses sisters and brothers, who all loved and will miss her dearly.
