Mr. Vincent K. Cross Sr.

Vincent Keith Cross, Sr. was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on Wednesday, November 23, 1955. He captured the heart of his immediate family, extended family, close friends of the family and most of all his mom and dad Gladys Sims Cross and the late Osie "Pappy" Cross. Vincent's early education began at St. Mary's Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade. After graduation the school was closed, and he entered the Vicksburg Warren School District. He graduated "Superlative" from Warren Central High School's Class of 1973. He continued his formal education at Hinds Community College and Jackson State University. Vincent's most notable attribute was his belief in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This belief guided him throughout his life. He was baptized by the Rev. Ed Morris at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Vincent was presently a member of Word of Faith Christian Center, pastored by Joe Butts in Horn Lake, MS where he and his family worshipped. He has worked as an area supervisor for McDonald's, District Manager for Wendy's and Bumpers Corp. And lastly, he worked part time for Enterprise Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee. Vincent's ability to lead and work well with others grew out of a strong background from his parents, grandparents, teachers, and pastors. Therefore, there was never a need to remind him to accept responsibility. He learned to separate work from play as he matured. He learned to hunt, fish, ride his horse, and care for animals from his dad. He also enjoyed camping, reading and keeping up with current events. In addition to those activities, he especially loved football and basketball. Preceding him in death were his dad, Osie Cross, his seventh month old brother, Stacey Lovell Cross, his grandparents, Shellie and Martha Slaughter Sims Price; Annie Lee and Lovell Johnson; his father-in-law, Ernest(Big Chief) Weems; one brother-in-law Jerry Weems and other uncles, aunts, cousins, and a friend Mickey Terrell. Vincent is survived by his devoted and faithful wife of 39 years, Sherlie Weems Cross, his son Vincent Keith Cross Jr., his grandaughter, Veronica McKinley Cross; his mother; Gladys Sims Cross; three sisters; Janita Faye Cross, Detroit; Cynthia Cross-Green, (Charles), and Felicia Cross Curry; (Jesse Sr.); one Uncle; Henry D. Price and one aunt; Thelma Sims Dukes; two nieces; Cydney Green and Jade Curry, three nephews; Jesse Jr., Cobe Green, and Jason Curry and other members of the Sims, Dukes, Price, Smith, Hardwick, Woods, Williams, Slaughter, and Cross families. His beloved mother-in-law, Nezzie Lee Weems; eight sisters-in-law, and nine brothers-in-law and other relatives and friends of the Weems family including Chantil Brown, llana Brown, and Kameal Brown. Several friends from kindergarten; Dario Lawrence, Louis Nervis, and Larry Johnson; the graduating class of 1973; special friends Dr. Calvin Lockett, Jesse Robinson Jr., James Harris, and many other unnamed friends.
