November 3, 1949 - June 29, 2020
Augusta Louise Wicks, known by family, friends, and loved ones as Cookie, was born Thursday, November 3, 1949 to Reverend McAllister Wicks and Maggie Clayton Wicks. Being the daughter of a preacher, Cookie came to know Jesus at an early age and continued to serve him faithfully until He called her home. Cookie always had a thirst for knowledge. She enjoyed reading and kept up with current events. Prior to integration, she graduated from McCall High School in Pelahatchie, Mississippi. She went on to obtain her Associate Degree in Social Sciences from Utica Junior College, Utica Mississippi. An advocate for education, Cookie would often say “An AA was good for my day; but you get as much education as you can cause when you do, nobody can take it away from you." Cookie never met a stranger. She had a "way" with people and often left an impression on those she met. Her kindness and generosity were unending. Although her means were less than extravagant, she never hesitated to share whatever she had with anyone she felt had a need. Cookie's beautiful smile, loving personality, and straight-forward expressions will be missed, but never forgotten. Augusta Louise Wicks transitioned into her heavenly home on Monday, June 29, 2020 after a long, hard fight. She leaves to cherish her memory: Two daughters: Vicki Wicks Jones and Lawanda Faye (Antonio) Buckner Nine Grand-children: Christian Jones, Courtney Jones, Alexis Hobson, Chloe Jones, Antonio Buckner, Jr, Kenyatta Hobson, Jacob Buckner, Jeremiah Buckner, and Trinity Buckner. Three great grand-children: Kristiona Jones, Mikylah Hobson, and Jaleel Smith Two Sisters and Two Brothers: Arlee Travis, Ella (Eddie) Nichols, Charles (Betty) Wicks and Dallas (Matiel) Wicks. A very special niece and two very close nephews: Yolanda Faye Swinney, Rev. George Payton, and Rev. Louis Macklin, Jr. and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins friends, and loved ones.
