Ms. Berdie R. Harvey was born on August 8, 1938 to Arrette and Joseph Harvey in Brandon, MS. In her early teenage years, Berdie relocated to Hempstead, NY. Where she dedicated her life to working and taking care of others. Ms. Berdie Harvey shared a strong, personal relationship with God. Having her children attend Antioch Baptist Church, Hempstead, NY, she instilled good Christian values in her children, she exercised her faith, not just in words but also in deeds. Berdie was employed with A Holly Patterson for 37 years. In her leisure she enjoyed reading, walking and of course her favorite Hobby - crochet. She was always thoughtful and full of wisdom. She served as an advisor and counselor to many. She believed in saving money and always having "At least $200 in your savings account and if one job didn't work, get a second one.” Everyone knew that if they checked the mail on their birthday, there will be a card in the mail from Ms. Harvey, because she never forgets a birthday. In her later years, Berdie moved back home to Brandon, MS and dedicated her time to bringing life back to her parents' home. She became a gardener, she was able to spend more time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings. Her relationships and bonds that was created was not for a short time but will stay with everyone that she loved for a lifetime. Berdie was truly a blessing to everyone that knew and loved her. Her friend, Mae McCain, Florine Wilson, and Charlotte Savage all adored her and still carries the same love today. She loved her family, and believed in hard work, peace, compassion, and forgiveness. She had a strong relationship with her brother, Sammy who she knew as the "candy man" and spent lots of quality time with her sister, missy. Often, she would tell a story of how her sister combed her hair and would hurt. She shared a strong bond with her sister in laws Ella Jean Harvey, Tamoria "Momma Sweet" Harvey, Bobbie Harvey, and Constance “Connie" Slaughter Harvey. To Berdie these women were just like sisters. When Berdie Ree was diagnosed with dementia, her eldest daughter and her daughters husband moved in with her to care for her. Jean and Anthony assisted by her youngest daughter Monica provided care and comfort until she was called to her final resting place. She leaves behind her older sister, Grace Morrow, and her baby brother Sammie Harvey. She also leaves behind 6 children, Victor Harvey, James D. Harvey Sr (Maudeen) of La Luz, NM. Jean Harvey Smith (Anthony) of Brandon, MS. Rodney Harvey of Spokane, WA, Monica Bilbro of Brandon, MS, and Arrette Harvey (Daryl Lane) of Miramar, FL. She also is proceeded by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, that cherished and loved her dearly. Her goal was to finish "this place up and get back to New York" Berdie will be truly missed and loved by many. Berdie Ree be forever be cherished and crocheted in our hearts.
