Mr. Dewey Porter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:6-7 Dewey Porter was born on October 18, 1936, to the late Winnie B. and Johnny Porter, Sr. Dewey grew up in Braxton, Mississippi. He attended Pearlie Grove School and New Hope School. Dewey was married to the late Beauty Mae Singleton Fairley and to this union, they were blessed with 5 children. Even though they eventually divorced and went their separate ways, they still remained friends. He worked at Paul Moak Pontiac in Jackson, Mississippi for over 40 years before finally retiring. He was always ready and willing to do whatever was asked of him-whether he had to make a bank run, move the vehicles around, or go pick up a vehicle with the wrecker. He was a dedicated employee that took pride in his job. At an early age, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Whenever he was around, it was never a dull moment. On Sunday, April 17, 2022, a little before midnight, he was called to his HEAVENLY HOME from Wisteria Gardens Rehab in Brandon, Mississippi. He was only scheduled to be there a few days for some therapy to help him regain strength from his recent hospital visits - but GOD had other plans for him. Dewey leaves to cherish and continue his legacy: Five Children: Stanley (Doris) Porter of Florence, MS; Eddie (Addie) Porter of Richland, MS; Linda (Fred) Taylor of Braxton, MS; Rickey Porter of Star, MS and Shirley (Michael) Harper of Florence, MS. Two Sisters: Rose Ella Owens and Dorothy Porter-Jenkins of Braxton, MS. Two Brothers: Johnny Porter, Jr and George Earl Porter of Braxton, MS. Thirteen grandchildren, Fifteen Great Grandchildren and Two Great-Great Grandchildren. A special friend: Rosie Mae Johnson of Braxton, MS and her two daughters, whom he helped rear, Sonja (Terry) Smith of Dallas, GA and Stephanie (Tony) Walker of Florence, MS. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also preceding him in death: Two Brothers: Willie George "W.G." Porter and John Wesley Porter; One Sister: Maecerine Porter-Brown; One Grand daughter Tangy Porter; One Brother-in-law: Evon Brown and One son: John Wallace Michael.
