December 15, 1942 - July 26, 2020
On July 26, 2020 at 4:20 pm while surrounded by her family, Sister Dorothy Jean Mangum accepted the call from the Lord to come home. She was born on December 15, 1942 in Florence, MS to the Late Henry Amos and the late Hattie Berry Amos. Six siblings preceded her in death. At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Brown Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Florence, MS. Throughout her life she faithfully attended the churches pastored by her husband, Elder Chester Mangum. In 1960, Sister Mangum married her Knight in Shinning Armor, Elder Chester Mangum. Four children were born to this union. With only a nineth grade education, Sister Mangum decided to fulfil her dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist. After obtaining her GED, she entered cosmetology school at Hinds Community College at night. Sister Mangum also had an outstanding work ethic-she was a dedicated employee for 33 years at Mississippi State Hospital and she worked tirelessly in her hair salon doing what she loved: creating magic. Sister Mangum, known as "Jeanna" by some and "Dot" by others, was known in the community for her kind words, clear guidance, and loyal friendship. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; traveling with Elder Mangum as he pastored and visited multiple churches; cooking and baking those irresistible cakes; and simply enjoying life. Sister Mangum leaves to cherish her beautiful memories; a loving husband, Elder Chester Mangum; two daughters: Lory Clerk and Shell Mangum; two sons: Larry (Nicole) Mangum and Darrell Mangum all of Florence; eight wonderful grandchildren: Carly (Jean) Joseph, Larry O'Quinn, Krisopher Mangum, JaDarius Mangum, Robert (RT) Clerk, Jr., Roderick (RJ) Clerk, Robert Payton and Adrianna Willen; and two great-grandchildren: Diesel Joseph and Avion Jai' Mangum. She also leaves to cherish four sisters: Sadie McIntyre, Marjean (James) Boyd, Velma Amos, and Cecil Ruth Amos alí of Florence; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and her adopted family: the members of Austin Church of Christ (Holiness) U.S.A. for whom she loved dearly. Words cannot express how deeply the Mangum family and the Florence Community will miss Sister Dorothy Mangum.
