Mr. Exodus McCornell

June 20, 1934 - January 5, 2022

For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Exodus McCornell was born June 20, 1934, in Leesburg, Mississippi. He was the fifth of seven children born to the late Mrs. Hassie Harvey McCornell and Mr. Mellie McCornell, who preceded him in death. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Leesburg, Mississippi, Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church, Morton, Mississippi, and later joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, Brandon, Mississippi under the leadership of Reverend Eddie Terry. Upon Reverend Terry's death, Dr. Ava S. Harvey Sr. became Exodus's pastor until God called Exodus home on January 5, 2022. Exodus worked many years as a brick mason and also worked at Adcock and Campbell and American Bandan. He later retired from Siemens. Some of his hobbies and activities were playing the lead guitar and singing. He sang with The Rock Star Travelers, The Laster Brothers., The Beemon Brothers., and The Astonishing B&S Singers of Brandon, Mississippi. Exodus' children were Kent Banks and Eddie James Dear, who preceded him in death, Dexter Braggs, Rickey Moore, Kathleen Moore Lampkin, Willie Lester, and Cassandra (Joe) Buckley. In 1962, he found the love of his life' Mrs. Mary V. Whitfield Lott McCornell. During their union, they had six children: Jolly Lewis, who preceded him in death, Jury (Mary) McCornell, Pamela McCornell, Deborah (Darrell Sr.) Hill, Gelston (Tonya) McCornell, Treasure McCornell, Toby Griffith and Larry Carter of Brandon, Mississippi. Exodus leaves a legacy on the lives of his children, twenty-four grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren (Pilgrim Rest Church Family), and friends.
