Mrs. Janie Vee Brown

Janie Vee Brown, the daughter of John and Iree Rhodes, was born on April 4, 1952, in Rankin County, Mississippi. She transitioned from earth to her eternal home on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Specialty Select-Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi. Janie Vee accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age and was a lifelong member of the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Through all of life's joys and trials, she never wavered from her profound faith in God. She willingly shared her spiritual gifts within the body of Christ as an Adult Choir Member, Adult Choir Director, Member of the Dining Committee and Mission Member. Janie Vee attended McLaurin Attendance Center, Piney Woods School, and graduated from Puckett Attendance Center in 1970. Two years after graduating from high school, she married E.G. Brown. Within their union, two beautiful children were born: Wayne L. Brown and Angela K. Brown. Janie Vee was a homemaker who also worked outside of the home to help support her family. She worked for several decades at Magnetek in the Lamination Department. With the concern of others on her mind, she tirelessly worked as a union organizer with the International Union of Electrical Workers (IUE) and the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI). She volunteered countless hours with the election campaigns for the Honorable Congressman Bennie G. Thompson. Janie Vee was a natural caregiver who found pleasure in serving others. She loved to cook and feed her family and the neighborhood, she loved to shop and would spend countless hours on this pastime. She loved to give orders and was well-known by her family and friends as being a bit "bossy." Her love for her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings and neighbors will endure forever. Janie Vee was preceded in death by her parents, John and Iree Rhodes and her sister, Everlena Floyd. Janie Vee leaves to rejoice in her memory and continue her legacy: her husband of 50 years, E.G. Brown of Mendenhall, Mississippi; her son, Wayne L. Brown of Denver, Colorado and her daughter, Angela K. Brown (James) Banks of Pinola, Mississippi; ten grandchildren, Tytanna Brown, Grace Banks, Cherie Wilson, Keondrea Banks, Jessica Magee, Jordan Magee, Kaylah Magee, Kishunna Magee, Marcus Brown and Javon Taylor; 10 great grandchildren; two grandpups - Cupcake and Blaze; three brothers, Roy T. (Ethel) Lott of Mendenhall, Mississippi, Wilbert (Allie) Newsome of Chicago, Illinois, and Johnny Ray Rhodes of Mendenhall, Mississippi; six sisters, Minnie Jordan of Chicago, Illinois, Mary Millsap of Mendenhall, Mississippi, Willie Jean (Howard) Logan of Magee, Mississippi, Ada F. Rhodes of Los Angeles, California, Velma R. Tullos of Mendenhall, Mississippi, and Glenda F. Rhodes of Mendenhall, Mississippi; special friends, Jean Brown, Paulette Buckley and Lucille Berry; her church family; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
