I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4: 7-8 John Wilson Kennedy was born April 30, 1937 in Scott County to the late Pete and Lula Mae Handfort-Kennedy. He was the third child born to this union. His parents and three Siblings, Maggie Kincaid, Schiniece Myers and Shirley Patterson preceded him in death. John attended Morton Vocational High School. After high school, John attended Alcorn University where he received his Bachelor Degree in Education. During his time at Alcorn, John pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. John was an advocate for education. He later received his Master's Degree and Specialist of Education from Jackson State University. John took pride in teaching/ educating young minds. John also coached football and took great pleasure in teaching the love of the game. John coached at Wingfield, was a principal at Brandon Junior High and Provine High School. He also worked at the Central Office for Jackson Public School. John married the love of his life, Bettye Lou Wallace, on April 30, 1962. To this union they had one son, Jonathan Wilson Kennedy. John leaves to cherish his memories one son: Jonathan Wilson Kennedy of Fannin, MS; one daughter (in love) Sheila Kennedy of Jackson, MS; four sisters: Christine Denson of Flint, MI: Jo Bell of Santa Monica, California; Amy Bell Bland of Chicago, IL, and Irish Smothers of Forest, MS; one brother, Rev. Arthur (Terry) Kennedy of Forest, MS; two sister in laws: Elaine Thomas of Walls, MS; Mae Jean Wallace of Chicago, IL; Six grandchildren: Bodhi McGowan and Jaylen Washington of Dallas, TX: Cachlea Kennedy of Davenport, IA; Jayla Kennedy, Ashley kennedy and Jonathan DaOne Kennedy all of Jackson, MS; four great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
