I have fought a good fight, I finished the race, and I have kept the faith. - 2 Timothy 4:7 Mr. Lee Vertis Carey affectionately known by family and friends as AC was born December 25, 1949, in Rankin County to the late Wallace and Annie Bell Singleton Carey. He was the fourth of six children Lee Vertis was reared in a loving and Christian home. He joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life he joined Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Moses Johnson. Lee Vertis attended McLaurin High School and was a 1969 graduate. He attended many football, baseball, and basketball games supporting his children, grandchildren, and community. Lee Vertis had a love for all sports. On August 26, 1972, Lee Vertis united in matrimony with the love of his life Everlyn McLin. To this union they were blessed with three beautiful children. Lee Vertis started his career working at Cowboy Maloney's. In 1972, he began working for M S Rubber Company. While employed there he worked as a delivery driver, handled shipping, and receiving, inside sales, hydraulics, and as a warehouse manager. He was a dedicated and faithful worker for 40 years until his health failed. Lee Vertis was preceded in death by his brother Charles L. Carey and three sisters Lee Anna Myers, Gloria D. Carey, and Essie L. Quinn. Lee Vertis (AC) leaves to cherish and reflect his legacy: A loving wife of 49 years Mrs. Everlyn McLin-Carey; two sons: Romallis (Phyllis) Carey Sr. and Lee Carey (Precious) of Florence, Mississippi; one daughter: Andrea (Cedric) Johnson of Mendenhall, Mississippi; four grandchildren: Romallis Carey Jr., Aliya Carey, Tyson Shaw, Natalya Berry; honorary grandchildren: Sur'pretti, Alex'andrea, Treionna; one brother: John W. (Dorothy) Carey of Braxton, Mississippi; two brothers in laws Walter (Earline) Harper and Ruben (Wilma) McLin of Florence, Mississippi, six sister in laws Mattie Smith of Florence, Mississippi, Dorothy McLin and Emma J. McLin of Jackson, Mississippi, Agnes Devoe and Inez Gilmore of Brooklyn, New York,Florenstin Carey of Memphis, Tennessee, one aunt Grace Singleton of Jackson, Mississippi and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
