Ms. Leona Evans-Dilworth

February 12, 1941 - March 15, 2021

Ms. Leona Evans Dilworth of Sandhill, Mississippi passed away Monday, March 15, 2021. Leona was born on February 12, 1941 to Charles and Beatrice Evans. She is the eighth of fourteen kids. Services will be held at Deans Memorial Funeral home on Sunday, March 21st at 12:00 for immediate family as seating will be limited. Public viewing will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm (CST) at Deans Memorial Funeral Home In Brandon, MS. Leona received her undergraduate degree from Jackson State University in Elementary Education. She later attended Pepperdine University in California and again Jackson State University to earn a Master’s Degree. Leona had a special gift for educating young people. She began her teaching career in Corinth, Mississippi and continued her career in several different school districts including Chicago Public School district, Los Angeles Public School district, and Jackson Public School district. Her tenure at Jackson Public district includes: McLeod, Spann, Power APAC, and Dawson in which she retired in 2001. Leona is proceeded in death by her husband, Douglas Dilworth, her parents Charles and Beatrice Evans and six siblings: Dorene Peacher, Carol Childress, Alice Mack, L.C. Evans, George Ford, and Willie Evans. She leaves to cherish her memory five sisters: Lillian Stewart (Elex); Lillie Johnson of Goshen Springs, MS; Nettie Reid of Sandhill, MS; Etta Smith (Jimmy) of Madison, MS; Doris Hinton (Bob) of Decatur, GA; and Bobbie Jenkins of Jackson, MS and one brother: Charles Evans, Jr. of Sandhill, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
