Mrs. Lorraine Car Thames was born on September 16,1946 to the late Henry Carr and Vera Ruth Bogan Carr. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Carr, and son-in-law, Barris M'Collum. She grew up in Florence, MS, Chicago, IL, and Madison County. Lorraine graduated from Rosa Scott in Madison County and attended Alcorn State University on a basketball scholarship. On May 03, 1968, she married Howard Thames and to this union they had four (4) children. At an early age, she joined the Brown Hill MB Church where she served faithfully as an usher and member of the Missionary Society until her health began to fail. Lorraine who was affectionately known as "Granny 7* Mare", enjoyed playing basketball in her younger years, watching family feud, soap operas, yard sales, talking on the phone, babysitting. She worked at the University of MS Medical Center, Rankin Medical Center, St. Dominic, Griffin Industries and the Fitness Plex in Florence. On October 05, 2019, God whispered to Lorraine, come home my good and faithful serwant. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving, husband, Howard Thames, her stepson, Darryl Williams of Florence, her children; Reginald Pierre (Marissa); Kristopher Simon; Lisa Thames Payton (William) all of Florence and Tamiko Thames-MoCollum of Brandon. She also leaves her sister, Mary Lou (Milton) Craig of Florence, MS. Lorraine was the proud grandmother of ten (10) grandchildren and two (2) great grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Kentrell, Jada, Chance, Tobias, Marangela (Pooh), Layla, Brayden, Darryl, Brittani, & Cory. Keylen and Kyleah Payton are her great grandchildren. Other family members include her brother-in-law, Robert (Nancy Lorraine's best friend) Thames, of Florence, MS; sister-in-laws, Florida Hyde, of Los Angeles, CA; Jean Webb (Jim) of Port Clinton, OH, and Agnes (Jim) Amos of Florence, MS. Linda and Denice Amos, her two (2) special cousins of Florence, MS, a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends are among those who loved and will greatly miss her. We are thankful to God for the seventy-three (73) years He allowed "Granny "to be such an important part of all of our lives.
