Mary V. Ward was born the fourth child of eleven children to Tommie Sr. and Corine Ward on August 24, 1943. She graduated from Carter High School in Brandon, Mississippi in 1962. While employed at Mississippi State Hospital, she furthered her education and secured her associate degree at Hinds Community College. After retirement, she started her own childcare services, under Mary's Little Lambs. "Aunt Doone" as she was affectionally known, was a faithful member of Salvation Hill Church of God in Christ where she held the position of church secretary and choir president until her health failed. Aunt Doone was an avid reader of books, loved word puzzles, watching television, and Jerry's Catfish. When technology began to take over, she was taught how to play games on her notebook and became a novice. Although she had no children, she was a godmother to many.. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister, Ada Ward; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Isadore Myers; brother, Willie James Ward, II., sister-in-law Laura Bell Ward; and nephew and niece, Gary and Sharon Ward. Aunt Doone's memories will be forever cherished by her god daughters, Della Myers-Coleman of Jackson Mississippi; Dondria Burks of Brandon, Mississippi and her god son Trenci (Nijla) Ward of Brandon, Mississippi, three (3) sisters, Anna Louise Clark of Brandon, Mississippi, Annie (Lee Earnest) Burks of Brandon, Mississippi; and Minnie (Curtis) Brown of Raymond, Mississippi; sister-in-law Mattie (WJ, II- deceased); four (4) brothers, Tommie L Ward, Jr. (Laura deceased) of Slidell, Louisiana, E.L. (Shirley) Ward Jackson, Mississippi, Bennie (Joann) Ward of Brandon, Mississippi, and Johnnie (Jeannia) Ward of Jackson, Mississippi; one god brother, Danny (Inola) McCoy of Brandon, Mississippi; a host of nieces and nephews; Kimberly Walker, and close friends, Daisy Crain and Carolyn Jackson
