Ms. Sadie Mae Carr Woodard Jones

November 20, 1932 - February 19, 2022

Sadie was born on November 20, 1932, to the late Fitzhugh Lee Carr and Lou Ella Davis Carr in Rankin County. Sadie attended McLaurin Schools. She received an Associate's Degree from Mary Holmes College, and later attended Jackson State University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education in May 1981. Sadie also acquired 15 hours towards her Master's Degree. She started as a Teacher's Aide at Martin Head Start Center and later became a teacher once she received her degree. She was later promoted as the Center Director at Martin Head Start Center until she retired in 2003. At an early age, Sadie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, as a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Pearl, MS. She later joined Greater Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS under the leadership of Reverend Doctor S.L. Spann, where she served as an usher for numerous years. She remained there until retirement and later re-established membership with New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mother Board, until she departed this life. Sadie was married to Henry Charles Woodard and to that union nine (9) children were born. She was preceded in death by her children Jackie Woodard (4), Brenda Woodard (2) and Lawrence Woodard. She leaves to cherish her memories: two (2) sons, Chester Lee Woodard (2) and Henry Charles Woodard, Jr. (4); four (4) daughters Jacqueline Woodard (5), Gwendolyn Woodard (2), Karen Woodard-Bennett (Henry Bennett) (3) and Beverly Woodard (7) and one (1) special daughter-in-law Patricia Hendrix-Woodard. Sadie also raised four (4) grandchildren - Angelique Woodard, Ketra McGriggs, Ashley Woodard and Danisha Woodard. She was preceded in death by five brothers - Bobby Jean Carr, Sonny Carr, Tommie Lee Carr, Joe Carr and Billy Ray Carr and two (2) sisters - Eloise Quick and Oree Carr. She also leaves to cherish her memories: one (1) brother Murray Carr; four (4) sisters - Vera Ruth Carr, Rozina Carr, Mary Margaret Smith and - Dessie Ree Willridge; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
