Mr. Spurgeon Williams, Jr. was born on October 29, 1944, in Florence, Mississippi to the late Spurgeon Williams, Sr. and Ruby Lee Williams. He departed this life on August 28, 2021, in his home with his son by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife Ernestine Williams and brothers, Henry "Red" Williams and Johnny "Bae Bae" (Janice) Williams. Junior grew up in Florence, Mississippi and attended McLaurin High School. After graduating in 1963, he worked for two years before entering the army in 1965 and serving in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1967. He started working for Irby Construction in 1972. Junior and Ernestine wed in 1975. He continued to work for Irby Construction for several years which required him to move his family frequently to different states. In 1986, Junior and family made their last move, returning to Mississippi. Junior enjoyed traveling with his wife and taking family vacations. He was always glad to have a conversion with a fellow Vietnam veteran. Even though his children had long graduated from high school, he still enjoyed attending high school football games. He was always up for taking long rides with his son Joe. Junior attended Mardi Gras for several years. One of his favorite things to do in New Orleans was to sit and watch the ships go by. He leaves to cherish his memories: son, Spurgeon "Joe" (Saundra) Williams III of Florence, Mississippi; daughter, Kenyetta (Tyrome) Williams of New Castle, Delaware; Seven siblings, Laura Mae Jones of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Carl Williams (Christine) of Aurora, Colorado; Vanessa Wilson of Florence, Mississippi; Thomas (Loretta) Williams of Colorado Springs, Colorado; James Williams of Michigan City, Indian; Gloria Beckett of Richland, Mississippi; Linda (Jessie) Ball of Florence, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
