Mr. Alfred James Cavalier

Alfred James Cavalier, affectionately known as "Al," entered eternal rest on July 26, 2026. He was born on July 16, 1950, to the late Felthus and Elizabeth Thornton Cavalier. Al was a warm, hardworking, and kindhearted man who never met a stranger. His friendly spirit, easy conversation, and genuine concern for others allowed him to form meaningful connections wherever he went. He had a natural way of making everyone feel welcomed, respected, and appreciated. Al proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honored to be recognized as a Buffalo Soldier. His military service reflected the courage, discipline, and dedication that he carried with him throughout his life. He used his knowledge, determination, and strong work ethic to build a life centered around service, entrepreneurship, and providing for his family. Al owned and operated his own roofing company and became widely known as the original "Gutter Man." With remarkable skill and precision, he installed seamless gutters by hand without the use of a machinea rare talent that earned him great respect throughout the community. He later worked for the United States Postal Service, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2018. Al shared 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Vivian Ideall Cavalier. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, dedication, and treasured memories. Their union was blessed with two children, Dominique Cavalier and Dimika Cavalier. When he was not working or spending time with family, Al enjoyed race cars and the excitement of a good football game. During football season, he especially loved attending games at Jackson State University. Whether watching cars race or cheering from the stands, Al embraced the energy, fellowship, and joy of the moment. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felthus and Elizabeth Cavalier; his loving wife, Vivian Ideall Cavalier; and his siblings, Oliver Thornton, Mary T. Harris, Dorothy C. Sanders, Geraldine C. Shanks, and Felthus Elizabeth Blaise. Al leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children, Dominique Cavalier (Charity) and Dimika Cavalier (Jason); his grandchildren, Dominique Cavalier Jr. (Angela), Aniesa Chillers (Clenard), Dontrell Harris, Natassja Stubbs (Dakota), and Jaycee Cotton; and his great-grandchildren, Phoenix John, Vivian Mae, Eloiza Reign, Willow Elise, and Cole Joseph. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Lucille Johnson-Sawyer, Nancy Cooper, Annette Neal, Cheryl Tillis, Toni Coston, Stephanie Combre, Rickey Cavalier, Gerald Cavalier, Lawrence Cavalier, and Terry Cavalier, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Al's life was a testament to hard work, kindness, service, and devotion to family. His welcoming personality, skilled hands, generous heart, and unforgettable presence will be deeply missed. Although he is no longer with us physically, the lessons he taught, the work he accomplished, and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
