Mrs. Betty Mae Stapleton-Spann

Betty was born on November 27, 1935, to the late Houston and Eliza Jane Stapleton, in Rankin County, Mississippi. She transitioned from earth to her eternal home on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her father; mother; six brothers, Jay Houston, Tom, William, Rev. Silas, Eddie Lee and John Fletcher; and one sister-in-law, Carrie Fletcher. Betty established a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age, when she united with Mt. Zion M.B. Church of Brandon, Mississippi. Later in life, she united with True Vine Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended until health interfered with her attendance. Betty's early years of education started at Sylvarena M.B. Church. She graduated high school at Piney Woods, as well as attended college there. She was a homemaker, who also worked outside the home at Rankin County Headstart. She was a woman who wore many hats, such as caregiver, babysitter, domestic sitter, and as an unlicensed psychologist and counselor for the family. She was a humble person, who always put her family before herself, as she cared for her mother over 20 years. It was her mission to be a servant to those in need, always sharing all she had. One of her other loves was her hobby of quilting which brought her so much joy. Betty was married on December 28, 1957, to Tommie Spann, who preceded her in death. To this union, six children were born, with one son (George) preceding her in death. Tommie's military career enabled them to travel and live all over the world. This was an amazing experience which enabled a country girl to acquire an abundance of knowledge and proper etiquette. Betty leaves to rejoice in her memory and continue her legacy five children: Thomas (Harvetta) Spann of Summerville, South Carolina; Tarance (Clara) Spann of Byram, Mississippi; Martin (Susan) Spann of Killeen, Texas; two daughters, Vanessa (James) Proctor and Cynthia Spann, both of Brandon, Mississippi; one daughter-in-law, Donna (George) Spann; ten grandchildren, one of whom she helped raised - Marcus Melvin; (she also helped raise two great nieces, Kimonia Daniel and Candilyn McKee); two great grandchildren; three brothers, Tommy (Ora) Stapleton, Lynn (Lillian) Stapleton, both of Jackson, Mississippi, and Willie (Doris Stapleton of Clinton, Mississippi; one sister, Jeanette (George) Banks of Jackson, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Richard Spann, sister-in-law, Shirley Spann, both of Brandon, Mississippi, sister-in-law, Annette Stapleton of Terry, Mississippi, lifelong friends, Lucille Stapleton, Georgia Williams, and Georgia Mounts; a specias iie, hieces, neckey) Branch; and hosts of loving and special family and friends.
