Mr. Donnell Barnes

Donnell Barnes was born July 31, 1961, in Collins, Mississippi. He was the second child of five children born to the late Mrs. Lena Mae Owens Barnes and Mr. E.L. Barnes, who preceded him in death. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ at Hopewell Baptist Church in Collins, Mississippi, and later became an honorary member at Lee Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Sandhill, Mississippi under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Dewayne Bloodsaw. He graduated from Collins High School and was a star basketball player. Donnell relocated to Jackson, Mississippi in the 80's and became gainfully employed at Watson Quality Ford in Jackson, Mississippi and later at Pisgah Partners of Sandhill, Mississippi. He was always found working in some capacity. He loved landscaping and made sure that his yard as well as the church grounds were always beautified. In addition, he loved lounging outdoors while listening to various genres of music and fishing. During this era in Donnell's life, he met the love of his life, Alice Lindsey. As a result of their courtship, he moved to Sandhill, Mississippi and obtained employment at Atlantic Dry Ice. Suddenly, Donnell's health began to decline after cardiac complications and he was unable to remain employed. The thirty-six year long relationship between Alice and Donnell resulted in a beautiful fairytale wedding on Donnell's birthday, July 31, 2022. It was approximately 3:37 AM in the morning on Sunday, February 11, 2024 when death angel came and knocked on the door of Donnell's heart and he transitioned at his earthly home from life to eternity. Donnell leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Alice Barnes; a bonus son Perry (Baronica) Gipson; one daughter, Sadie (Anthony) "Peanut" Barnes; two grandsons, Zachariah "Zac" Barnes and Chaseten "Levi" Harris; two sisters, Rosie Walker and Lakeisha Barnes; two brothers, Larry Barnes and Rex (Courtney) Barnes, all of Collins, Mississippi; a bonus mother-in-law, Johnnie Mae Shavers; three sisters-in-law Emma Jenkins and Mary "Bonnie" (William) Tellis and Viola Manning; four brothers-in-law, Timmy (Sandra) Horton, Eddie Horton, Randy (Shay) Horton and Earl Horton; one god mother lola "Granny D" Dowell; special cousins, Della Brumfield; and Christine Lindsey; his god-children, Tiffany Ashley "Tuttie" Collier, Twanna Taylor, Delwin (Cindy) Taylor, Brittany Dawson, Danny "Tate" Thompson, Ron and Felicia Jones and Darlene Lindsey; special friends, Richard Taylor, Michael Gross, Doug Irvin, Delion Evans, Lorenzo and Dwight Evans, Robert Earl Mapp, Allen Williams, Hilton Smith, Dennis Smith, Ryan Smith and Elijah Jones. His mother-in-law, Sadie Gipson, father-in-law Willie B. Horton, Sr., brothers-in-law, Ronald Walker and Willie B. Horton, Jr. and sister-in-law Retha Shavers all preceded him in death. Donnell will forever be remembered in the hearts of other family, friends and co-workers.
