Mr. George Cox

George was born on February 16, 1939, in Florence, Mississippi, to the late Will Cox and Annie Mae Cox. He accepted Christ at an early age and began a lifelong journey of faith that remained the foundation of his life. George attended New Hope School in Florence, Mississippi, where he received his early education. In November 1959, George moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he began building the next chapter of his life. It was there that he met the love of his life, Doris Griffin. They were united in holy matrimony and shared more than 60 years of marriage, building a home centered on faith, love, and family. Their union was blessed with four children: Lewis, Barbara, Dennis and Brenda. After moving to Milwaukee, George worked several jobs before beginning his lasting career with Briggs and Stratton in 1967. Through dedication and dependability, he faithfully served the company for 29 years before retiring. Following his retirement, George and Doris returned home to his beloved state of Mississippi in 1996. Upon returning to Mississippi, George reunited with his church family at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist church in Brandon, Mississippi, where he remained a faithful member. He would often share Bible scriptures or references of the Bible with others and believed in honoring God, loving people, and respecting one's parents. His faith was not only something he professed, but it was also evident in the way he lived each day. George found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors, especially cutting the grass, gardening, and keeping his yard and the pond looking its best. He never met a stranger and had an amazing gift for making people feel welcome. Whether talking with family, neighbors, or someone he just met, George always had a smile, a kind word, or a joyful conversation. He loved helping others, cherished time with his brothers, family and friends, and truly enjoyed life. His generosity, lively spirit, and warm personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Cox and Annie Mae Cox; his beloved daughter, Barbara Vasquez, six siblings: Oscar Cox, Willie Mae Washington, T.C. Cox, Tiny Mae Martin, Shelby Ray Cox, and Lindberg Cox. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Doris Cox; three loving children, Lewis Joyce) Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dennis Cox Pearl, Mississippi, and Brenda Cox Biloxi, Mississippi. Nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; his brothers Y.C. Cox, Fred (Ella Mae) Cox, W.G. (Betty Sue) Cox, Curtis (Francis) Cox, and Billy Eugene (Celia) Cox; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, special friends, church family and dear friends.
