Mr. Harvey Temple Chancellor

Life is a living day, a time to work, and a time to play, and then comes death. The essence of a life well lived, one worth celebrating, and remembering is the ability to care for and share with others. On January 2, 1942, heaven graciously entrusted us with Harvey Temple Chancellor in Jackson, Mississippi to the proud parents of Harvey Lee Chancellor and Georgie Beatrice Robinson. To this union two children were born Harvey Temple and Thelma Jean. Both parents preceded him in death, along with his wife Alberta Jenkins Chancellor. On November 16, 2023 at 9:00 AM at home hospice, Harvey returned to his heavenly home. During his 81 year tenure, he touched numerous lives. He was the epitome of a strong, good family man with a quiet persona. Harvey Temple accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend JD Hayden at Sweetwater MB Church located in the east Jackson community of Flowood, Mississippi. He was a faithful and dedicated member until his health failed. At times, he was unable to attend church services, but the present pastor, Donald Wells Sr. and various members, including his faithful cousin, Dorothy served him with communion and prayer at his home. He received his formal education at Saint Matthew and Flowood Elementary School in the Rankin County School District. Upon graduating from JP Campbell High School, he also attended Campbell College, receiving an associate degree in education. He later decided to attend Jackson State University, with a change in his major from elementary education to vocational and industrial education. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and he was also a proud JSU Tiger. Harvey Temple was united and holy matrimony to Alberta Jenkins on March 4, 1964. Their union was blessed with four children: Curtis, Charnita, Harvey, III and Regginald. Eager to start his career, he moved his family to Chicago Illinois, where he found employment at Saralee Bakery for several years. In later years, he relocated his family back to Mississippi where he worked for several companies Dykes Trucking Company as a truck driver, Cole Manufacturing, Mississippi Metal and Dixie Glass where he later retired. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving, caring, dependable, and sharing sister Thelma Chancellor who was dear to his heart. Four children an attentive daughter, who was the apple of his eye, Charnita Chancellor, a loving son Harvey T. III, sharing and responsible son Curtis J. (Lisa) and reliable son Regginald. Twelve grandchildren, Ervin, Enissa, Eric, Earon, Eeliyah Semaje, Semya, Shakayla, Eympres, Brittahnye, Courtney, Ashley, and Christopher. Nine great grandchildren, including three, who shared some memorable moments during the last year of his life Ivory, Rhylen, Emilio. Special God grandson, Carter. Two grand sons-in-law, Rodarious Kinner, and Donjavious Sanders and faithful and attentive brother-in-law, James Jenkins and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We will truly miss his long, telephone conversations with extended family and friends. We will also miss his energizing efforts to hunt and fish and his many friends calling him Temp. We will miss him on Sunday evenings watching his favorite teams: LA Dodgers, Golden State Warriors, and Seattle Seahawks. He was a diehard fan. We felt so proud to have our own personal historian, storyteller, and weatherman. We will miss him ordering bacon, balogna and cheese delivered by a special brother, James Canady from Williamsville, Philadelphia. We will truly miss his delicious meals prepared with a flavor of soul. He lived his life well, and to its fullest. He loved life dearly, his family wholeheartedly and unequivocally, his friends, coworkers and extended family. His sense of humor was one of his strongest assets. He loved to shoot the breeze, and could do it rather well, according to his friends and comrades. He had a way with words and a way with life. HE DID IT HIS WAY.
