Henry Lee Williams

Henry Lee "Red" Williams was born on July 24, 1946 to the late Spurgeon Williams and Ruby Lee Stamps Williams in Star (Rankin County), Mississippi. He departed this life on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at approximately 5:00 p.m. at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS. Henry attended Mt. Olive School (Morning Star MB Church) in Star, MS. Following elementary school, he attended McLaurin High School where he was active in football, baseball, and the Annual Staff, and a member o the New Farmers of America (N.F.A.). After graduation, Henry began working as a Pipe Wrapper at Ross and Richards in Jackson, MS. He then entered the United States Air Force and served as a Military Policeman. Henry toured Vietnam, California, and England. When he returned to the States, he moved to Indiana where he worked for the Indiana Department of Corrections. Henry later continued his career in the steel industry at National Steel Midwest Division in Portage. He advanced his career from Crew Leader to Supervisor and traveled for the company to various locations in the United States to assist with many projects. As a young man, Henry attended Enoch Grove MB Church, in Florence, MS. He then moved his membership to New Hope MB Church in Michigan City, Indiana under the leadership of Rev. Eddie L. Jenkins where he remained a faithful member until his death. On September 23, 2003, Henry married his wife, Ms. Carol Williams. They loved travelling, watching sporting events, and cooking together. Henry "Red" Williams leaves to cherish his fond memories: His wife of 16 years, Carol Williams of Michigan City, Indiana; one son; Jason Williams of Michiga City, Indiana; four daughters; Tenisha Varrie and Tena Varri, both of Michigan Cty, Indiana, Zhawnea' Varrie of Clarksville, Tennessee; and Helen Brooks of Little Rock, Arkansas. Six grandchildren whom he loved early: Tay'Vion Varrie, Javan Varrie, Jaia Varrie, Jason Williams, Jr., DeMarco Linnis, and Treasure Brooks; Nine siblings: Laura Mae Williams Jones of New Buffalo, Michigan; Spurgeon, Jr. (Earnestine) Williams, Vanessa Williams Wilson, Johnny (Janice) Williams, Gloria Williams Beckett, and Linda (Jessie) Williams Ball all of Florence, MS. Thomas (Loretta) Williams of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Carol (Christine) Williams of Aurora, Colorado, and James Williams of Michigan City, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Spurgeon Williams, Jr., and his son, Hilman "Bo" Williams. He is also survived by: his aunt, Mrs. Lois Stamps Evans of Banning, CA., and uncle, Mr. Johnny Lee Stamps of Romulus, MI: two special sisters: Candace Dabney and Aprilla (April) Van Buren of Michigan City, Indiana; and six special friends; James Mitchell, Ezell Robertson, Dorice Turner (C-Dogg), Henry Figaurora, Lester Norvell, Jimmy McDonald, and a host of other relatives, family and friends.
