Mrs Jacqueline Whaley

Jacqueline Gilbert Whaley was born May 19, 1952 and raised in Lena, Mississippi, to the proud parents of Birtha (Soot) and Delaware (Pappi) Gilbert, who preceded her in death. Jackie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Ealy Primary School and graduated from Murphy High School. Jackie moved to Detroit, Michigan and shortly afterwards married J.C. Washington, Jr., and to this union they had one child, Jacquita (Kita) Jaycia Washington. J.C. was called home to be with the Lord at an early age and because his love was eternal, it enabled Jackie and Kita to form an inseparable bond during that difficult time. Jackie later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and stayed with her Aunt Mary Jane Pace and brother-in-law Nathaniel Whaley. During this time, Jackie helped Mary raise her two kids, Nathaniel Mikkel and Kenyatta LaTrise Whaley. While living in Las Vegas, she met the love of her life, Ernest Whaley, St. and from this union, they had two children, Chimere 'Jon Whaley and Ernest Whaley, Jr. They exemplified black love. He was her Hero and she was his Queen. Ernest did everything to care for his family including making the ultimate sacrifice on December 24, 2002. Jackie was a natural born protector, caregiver, and lover of family and people. She dedicated her life to the service of others with gentleness, kindness, and joy, and served anyone God placed in her care. She also helped raise her younger siblings, cousins, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and more. Jackie was a blessing to everyone she met and was known as one of the comedians of the family. She could be heard telling jokes and had a special knack for impersonating people. Jackie was an amazing singer and could remember a myriad of songs and would sing them verbatim until her death. She and Ernest were known for their love of music and enjoyed cooking, singing and dancing together. Jackie especially loved Blues artists such as Johnnie Taylor, and gospel groups like the Canton Spirituals. Jackie departed this life on May 5, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was ushered into heaven peacefully to be with God while at home. Jackie leaves to cherish her memories three (3) children, Jacquita, Chimere, and Ernest Jr.; (13) grandchildren, Jonekka (Ebony), Kilah, Kanijah, Jaiden, Marquis, Brayden, Brandon Jr., Ernest IlI, Isaiah, Tajmia, Zamairi, Deshawn, and Emari; (3) siblings, Quitman (Blue) Gilbert, Gloria Gilbert, and Cassie Stribling; (2) brothers-in-law, Nathaniel (Eva) Whaley and Joseph Whaley; (1) sister-in-law, Carolyn Taylor; (1) uncle, Andrew Atkins, Sr.; and (1) great Aunt, Dixle Sparkman. Jackie was welcomed into heaven by her sister, Bertha Lindsey, (2) brothers, Anthony Gilbert and Melvin Atkins; and her grandparents, Jake and Roberta Atkins.
