Mr. John Edward Dixon

On November 15, 2022, the Lord granted Brother John Edward Dixon permission to ascend into Heaven, to take his eternal resting place. Mr. John E. Dixon age 86 was welcomed into this world on February 27, 1936, by his overjoyed parents, the late Epsy Mae and Peter Dixon in Greenfield, Mississippi. He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Barbara Dixon, seven (7) siblings and two (2) children, Sandra Dixon and Douglas Melvin. In this world, John had a long and faithful walk with the Lord. He began his Christian journey as a young boy, being baptized in the very same pond he would swim in while wearing his birthday suit. He often expressed, "because I was a swimmer, my uncle Tip didn't have to hold my nose like the other kids" John was a self-taught man in various facets of his life, better known as a jack of all trades. He always stressed the importance of an education. He was taught by his grandfather Professor Ragland, affectionately known to him as Papa. John would mention because his Papa taught his own mother, how to read and write, it left an impression on him to learn. John had a funny sense of humor. He said when he was in the fourth grade, he begged his Papa to allow him to go back to the second grade because it was much easier. John was an honorable Veteran, having served proudly in the United States Army. He gladly expressed his appreciation for receiving his flowers, while in this life, from the Veterans' Affair. His face would light up and his chest would swell with each and every, "We thank you Sir, for your sacrifice and services to this Country". We Salute You Sir. What proud and tearful moments to witness. Another proud moment was the birth of The Gospel Tones of Las Vegas, NV and J.E.D. Records. John was not only the manager, producer, but he was a gifted writer. Some of the music from The Gospel Tones can be found on YouTube. John also wanted his children to become another Jackson's Five singing group, but unfortunately, no one knew how to carry a tune. One of John's greatest legacies in his life was the birth of his children. He loved and prayed continuously for each one by name. This same love for his children carried over to his grandchildren. His prayer and desire were that all his children, grandchildren and following, would have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. This desire was so strong that he made it his mission to Baptize his grandchildren and that he whole heartedly succeeded. Brother John was a Deacon at Guiding Light M. B. Church, where he served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor James Dixon, until he was summoned home. Brother John was a great and God-fearing man a faithful husband, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He would often say, "When I die, I'm going upstairs, because that man downstairs got problems". He is going to truly be missed. Until we meet again, develop and keep your walk with Christ. Brother Tohn Edward Dixon is survived by his children: Ray Steve Mims, Victor (Betty) Dixon, Toni (Joe) Butler, Funches (Sharese) Dixon, Antonio (Nicole) Carr, Ossy (Shannon) Dixon, Makesha (James) Dixon-Dukes, Yahtay Johnson, Tavosha Johnson and Tirashun Dixon.
