Mr. Levertis Braddy

Levertis Braddy, affectionately known as "Vert," was born on June 5, 1943 in Florence, Mississippi. Levertis transitioned from Earth to Heaven on November 7, 2025 at 8:02 pm. He was the ninth of 14 children born to the union of R. T. Braddy, Sr. and Juanita Kitchens Braddy. Vert accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. H.I. Newsome at Good Hope MB Church in Florence, Ms. Vert loved his church dearly and served as President of the Trustee Board and was also a dedicated member of the Good Hope Male Choir. Vert began his education at Steep Bank School in Florence, Mississippi, and later graduated from McLaurin High School in 1962. He then attended Jackson State University on a baseball scholarship. While attending Jackson State, he also played with the Jackson Cubs alongside his brothers, Leonard and Lewis Braddy. After completing his bachelor's degree, Vert continued his education at Jackson State where he earned his Master's degree. He also attended the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Texas at Austin, where he became certified as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI), which included training in Braille. Levertis dedicated over 30 years of service as a teacher, coach, and Athletic Director at the Mississippi School for the Blind. He served as the track and wrestling coach, with his wrestling program becoming the first sanctioned wrestling program in the State of Mississippi in 1974, and is still the longest running program today. He even led the team to compete in the Special Olympics. Levertis was also responsible for leading the track and physical education programs at the school. On August 26, 1978, Vert married the love of his life, Rosetta McLin Braddy. To this union, two children were born: Ahmad Braddy and Krystel Braddy-Brown. Vert enjoyed teaching his son how to swing a bat and his daughter how to shoot a basketball. He loved playing doctor/patient with his granddaughters and especially enjoyed their laughter and the memories they created together. After retiring from teaching, Vert became a full-time farmer in 1996. He raised cattle and bailed hay. Vert was truly a jack of all trades when it came to earning and creating opportunities. He sold everything from jewelry, to Tahitian Noni juice, to cattle — always working, always building. Outside of being a great father and husband, Levertis, was a leader in the community. In 1998, he was honored with the Key to the City of Laurel for his outstanding service and impact. ONE OF VERT'S FAVORITE SAYINGS WAS: "A word to the wise is sufficient." He is preceded in death by: His parents, R. T. Braddy, Sr. and Juanita Braddy; Three brothers, Walter L. Braddy, Sr., Lewis Braddy, Sr., and R. T. Braddy, Jr. ;Two sisters, Barbara Smith and Helen Braddy Spence; His mother-in-law, Gussie McLin, and father-in-law, Master McLin, Sr. His memory will be cherished by: His devoted wife, Rosetta McLin Braddy; His loving children, Ahmad Braddy of Florence, Ms. and Krystel(Kyris) Brown of Florence, Ms. ; Four brothers: Joe (Jessie) Braddy, Sr. of Jackson, Ms., Robert (Janice) Braddy, Sr. of Florence, Ms., Leonard (Doris) Braddy of Jackson, Ms., Eddie James (Bobbie) Braddy, Sr. of Bryam, Ms, Four sisters: Earnestine Braddy Hollimon of Brandywine, MD, Mary Berry of Atlanta, Ga, Berneita Braddy Hines of Chicago, IL, Linda Braddy of Florence, Ms Four Grandchildren:Ahmari Braddy, Amaiyah Braddy, Kove Kree Brown, Kle Krystel Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
