Lillie Mae Hampton

Sister Lillie Mae Weathersby was born August 2, 1932, to the late Dewitt Weathersby and Evie Lee Spell of D'Lo, Mississippi. She was the second of five children. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Alma Kitchens Spell, her wonderful husband, Otis Lee Hampton, two brothers, Earnest and DW WEathersby, along with a loving and devoted son-in-law, Deacon James Earl Grant. Lillie Mae grew up in Florence, MS. She was raised by her grandmother, Alma Kitchens Spell. As a youth she was taught by Lillie Byrd while attending the Greenhill School in Rankin County. Lillie Mae was joined in Holy Matrimony to Otis Lee Hampton on December 24, 1949 in Florence, MS. Their union was blessed with six children. Lillie Mae was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and drawing. As entertainment, she loved watching wresting with her grandchildren. After the birth of her children, she worked outside the home at Piney Woods Country Life School as a dorm mother. Later, she was employed at Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield, MS, and at Compere's Nursing Home in Jackson, MS. She contributed her final days of working as an in-home caregiver in Rankin and Hinds counties until her health declined. As a member of the church Lillie Mae served as a Deaconess, an usher, a member of both the Mission and Choir, and a part of the kitchen committee. Lillie Mae never met a stranger. She carried a smile and her spirit was pleasant. Her grandchildren lovingly called her "Suga Mama" and "Grandma". Her favorite saying was, "No Fun - No Joy". She will be greatly missed by her brother: John R. Berry of Jackson, MS; her sister, Willie L. Archie of Jackson, MS; her six children: Judy Hampton Moore (Eddie); Dixie Hampton Grant (James-Deceased) of Braxton, MS ; Bruce Nolen Hampton (Angelean) of Florence, MS; Paula Hampton Johnson (Anthony) of Jackson, MS; Rickey Lynn Hampton of Florence, MS; Cindy Hampton of Atlanta, GA. Grandchildren: Nikki Morris (Lawrence), Jeremy Moore, Jackie Willie, Jennifer Grant, Christopher Grant (Lauren), Brittany Grant, Fiona Wilson. Great Grandchildren. One Great-Great Granddaughter; Lauryn. A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
