Mother Sallie Ann Sims

Mrs. Sallie Ann Sims was born on January 22, 1939, in Fannin, Mississippi. She grew up during the challenging era of segregation and attended Carter High School during her formative educational years. In November 1956, she married her childhood sweetheart, Mr. James "Sonny" Sims, Sr. Mrs. Sims devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family as a homemaker until the last of her five children reached school age. She later entered the workforce at Mississippi State Hospital, where she distinguished herself through dedication and hard work. Over the years, she advanced to a supervisory position in the Housekeeping and Laundry Department and ultimately retired after 31 years of faithful and dedicated service. At an early age, she became a devoted member of Greater New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in numerous capacities. Her service included being a diligent member of the Gospel Choir, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Mission Department, a Deaconess, and a respected member of the Mother's Board. She loved praising God during worship services, attending Bible class, coordinating benefit programs, and lending a helping hand to those in need. Sister Sims greatly enjoyed traveling and cherished trips to different states, embracing new adventures alongside family and friends. She was also a fan of independent films and an avid sports enthusiast, particularly football and basketball. Her favorite players included Stephen Curry and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. Sallie and James were blessed with five children who continue her legacy: three daughters - Nora (Henry) Anderson, Ada Sims (Baptiste), and Laura (Perez) Wilson; and two sons - James Sims, Jr., and Will (Delinda Faith) Sims. She was also the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Suzy (Jeff), LaQuanda, Tiffany, Steven (Santanna), Perezcia, Kristin (Matthew), Corey (Ashton), Ariel, and Antonio (Christie); and 32 great-grandchildren. With her passing, Sister Sims leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Maurice Morris (Eugene) and Florese Kersh; and one brother, Judge Kersh. She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Ella Kersh (Sidney); her grandmother, Susie Lawson (Jake); one sister, Mamie Sue Stamps (Dave); and one brother, Joe Sydney Kersh. She also leaves to mourn her passing a host of beloved family members and cherished friends.
