Ms. Sylvia Teresa Whitehead

Sylvia Teresa Whitehead, born October 25, 1955, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Jaltheus & Ruby Mannery, transitioned to her heavenly home on June 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, courage, unwavering dedication to her family and community. Sylvia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, laying a spiritual foundation that guided her throughout her life. She became a faithful and devoted church member at Christ Tabernacle Church on December 18, 2011, where she served under the Leadership of her Pastor, "Hosea J. Hines." She served as a Greeter diligently and wholeheartedly until her health began to decline. Sylvia loved creating special items for the church ministries and welcoming others with a warm smile as they entered the church every Sunday. Her steadfast commitment to her church family reflected her deep love for God and her sincere desire to serve others. Sylvia received her education at Riverdale High School where she graduated. Her career included dedicated service as a Dietary Manager in the School system, where she faithfully loved serving others. In her leisure time, Sylvia enjoyed making door wreaths, crafting, cooking (especially her famous Gumbo, bargain shopping and creating special handmade items for those she loved. Her generous spirit and creative talents touched many lives. Sylvia was preceded in death by her sisters, Karen, Janice, Mary and Doris; and her brother, Harry Davis. Sylvia leaves to cherish her precious memories of three children: Tiaka (Walter) Silas of Bryam, MS; Tiffany (Bryant) Cousin of Florence, MS; Jonathan Bailey of Brandon, MS; two Step-children: Nathan Scott III of Houston, TX, and Juawane Oliver of Houston, TX: eight grandchildren: Fareno Harris, Kentrell Scott, Britney Miller, Jacoby Bailey, Brianna Cousin, Javian Bailey, Braxton Cousin and Ainsley Bailey; three siblings: Kenny (Rosalyn) Mannery; Darrell (Nina) Mannery; and Bobby Myers; a host of loving nieces, nephews, church family, dear friends and a special God-daughter: Christina Stackhouse. Though she will be deeply missed, her faith, love and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her life was a testament to God's Grace, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
